FROM A DONATION TO COMMUNITY FOOD PRODUCTION

Impendulo Community Development and Youth Empowerment would like to express our sincere appreciation to Vuya Foundation for their generous donation of two 10kg bags of potatoes ready for planting.

Our relationship with Vuya Foundation goes back many years, and we are grateful for the continued support and partnership in building stronger communities.

The New Rest Valley Creche, built in the heart of our community, is especially important to us, as many of our children attend the creche. This makes community-based food production even more meaningful.

Today, we selected a suitable piece of land at the Impendulo project where these potatoes will be planted. Our facilitator guided the team and demonstrated the correct method of planting potatoes.

This practical activity also builds on the two-day agricultural workshop provided by Food & Trees for Africa, giving participants an opportunity to put their knowledge into practice.

This is what our agricultural development pathway is about:
Participation → Training → Practical Skills → Production → Food Security → Livelihood Opportunities

We believe that agriculture is not only about producing food. It is also about developing people, creating skills, strengthening communities and opening opportunities for the future.
One donation can become a harvest.
One lesson can become a skill.
One small piece of land can become the beginning of something much bigger.

Thank you once again to Vuya Foundation and Food & Trees for Africa for walking this journey with Impendulo.

Impendulo Community Development and Youth Empowerment
Creating a poverty-free, eco-friendly community through agriculture.

I think this version connects Vuya Foundation → Food & Trees → training → actual planting → your Allotment System vision without making the Facebook post feel like a funding proposal.

Impendulo Community Development And Youth Empowerment, in partnership with Food & Trees for Africa, is grateful to have received seedlings from Hishtil.

We collected 10 boxes of seedlings, including rosemary, parsley, celery, spring onions and chillies.

With the SEF programme having come to an end, we were faced with the challenge of planting and caring for these seedlings. However, once again, our friends and supporters stepped forward.

We would like to thank everyone who voluntarily gave their time and energy to help us plant the seedlings.

This is what community development is all about people coming together, sharing their time and skills, and ensuring that the work continues.

ANOTHER MILESTONE FOR IMPENDULO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

After four full years of struggling with the rising costs of diesel and petrol, Impendulo Community Development and Youth Empowerment has finally reached another important milestone.

For years, we relied on a generator to support our water system. Unfortunately, our own generator started experiencing serious mechanical problems and eventually became damaged beyond repair.

With our water storage capacity also being limited, we faced many challenges.
We tried hiring generators from companies specialising in generator services, but this was not a sustainable long-term solution.

After numerous meetings and discussions with our partners and friends of Impendulo, we came to an important conclusion: solar energy was the way forward.

A funding proposal was developed with the valuable assistance of Carol and Alex, who supported and endorsed the proposal. We are deeply grateful for their contribution to helping us move this vision forward.

There are also many people working quietly behind the scenes, doing important work that may not always be visible, but which has played a major role in making this programme possible. To everyone who has contributed, advised, supported, encouraged and believed in Impendulo — we see you, and we appreciate you.

Following the approval of the budget by one of our partners, the solar company did not waste any time. Their professional team was on site and immediately began the installation.
Today, the team is completing the final small touches, with the project expected to be completed on Monday.

This is more than just a solar installation.
It represents sustainability, independence, responsible resource management and hope for the future of our community.
After four challenging years, we can finally say:

WE ARE MOVING FORWARD.
This is another step towards our long-term vision of building a poverty-free, eco-friendly community through agriculture, education and youth empowerment.
Impendulo is growing — and we are not stopping.

Celebrating the End of Another SEF Journey at Impendulo

On 20 August, the Social Employment Fund (SEF) contract came to an end, marking the conclusion of another meaningful chapter at Impendulo Community Development and Youth Empowerment.

The SEF programme continues to change lives by giving young people, especially those fresh out of school, an opportunity to gain their first real work experience. For many of our participants, their first step into the world of work happened through SEF at the Impendulo project. We hope this experience will open doors to permanent employment and future opportunities.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Goedgedacht Trust and Grey Heron for giving us the opportunity to participate in this programme and to contribute our knowledge, experience and passion towards training and developing young people.

At Impendulo, we strongly believe that food security is essential to our community, particularly in an area where seasonal employment can create uncertainty for many families. Through agriculture, skills development and practical training, we continue working towards building a more sustainable future.

A special thank you goes to our SEF 4 participants for your dedication, commitment and availability throughout the programme. It was certainly not always smooth sailing—we had our ups and downs—but we achieved so much together and gained valuable skills and knowledge through our collaboration with Food & Trees for Africa and the Department of Agriculture.

We also want to acknowledge all the behind-the-scenes role players, partners, supporters and friends who continue to strengthen and support the vision of Impendulo Community Development and Youth Empowerment. Your contribution, whether big or small, makes a difference.

A special infrastructure update:
We were grateful to receive a generator from Talisman, which allowed us to pump water from our borehole for three days. However, the cost and availability of petrol remain a challenge. We are therefore looking forward to getting our solar system fully operational, which will make a significant difference to our water security and agricultural production.

To every participant, partner, donor, supporter and team member who has walked this journey with us: THANK YOU!

The SEF contract may have ended, but the journey of learning, growing, farming and creating opportunities continues.

Temporary Playground Closure

Good morning, everyone.

It is with great disappointment that we have had to make the difficult decision to temporarily close the playground.

We have noticed that some children visiting the park are unfortunately damaging the shade-net structure and pulling out young crops that have been planted for our community project.

We understand that children need a safe and enjoyable space to play, and we sincerely apologise for this temporary closure. However, we need to protect the infrastructure and crops while we work on a long-term solution that will allow everyone to enjoy the space responsibly.

We kindly ask parents, guardians and community members for their understanding and support.
Our goal is not to keep children away, but to protect the space so that it can be enjoyed by everyone again.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support

A BIG MILESTONE FOR IMPENDULO!

Today, we are very happy to report that our three new water storage tanks have finally been installed and positioned close to our shade-net area!

These three tanks add 30,000 litres (30kL) of water storage capacity to the 60kL received from Riebeek Cellars (RC), 20kL from SEF, and 5kL from PPC.

This brings our total water storage capacity to an incredible 115,000 litres (115kL)!

This water reserve will play a crucial role in supporting our agricultural production and ensuring that our crops have a more reliable water supply during the coming days and weeks.

This achievement is a true reflection of teamwork, commitment and the support of our friends, partners and stakeholders. A special thank you to the Department of Agriculture, which played a strategic role in ensuring that everything went smoothly, together with the implementing agency, Casidra.

We are now looking forward to Food & Trees for Africa assisting us with filling the tanks. It may take approximately two to three days to fill all the tanks, but we are excited to see this important part of our water infrastructure coming together!

One step at a time, one project at a time — building a stronger and more sustainable Impendulo!
