🦷 Oral Health and the Care of Older Persons 💙

Good oral health is an essential part of healthy ageing. As we grow older, maintaining a clean and healthy mouth helps prevent pain, infections, gum disease and tooth loss. It also supports good nutrition, comfortable eating, clear speech and overall well-being.

👵👴 How can we support oral health in elderly care?

- 🪥 Brush teeth twice daily using fluoride toothpaste.
- 🦷 Clean dentures daily and ensure they fit comfortably.
- 💧 Encourage regular hydration to help prevent dry mouth.
- 🥗 Promote healthy, nutritious meals that support oral health.
- 👄 Check for mouth sores, swollen gums, bleeding or changes in the mouth.
- ❤️ Provide gentle assistance with oral hygiene to residents who struggle to care for themselves.

Remember: Oral health is more than having a beautiful smile. It is about dignity, comfort, confidence and quality of life.

Today, we wore our funky hats with love and purpose as we celebrated our patients and all those living with mental health conditions and functional challenges.

Every person deserves to feel loved, valued, respected, and understood. Behind every challenge is a person deserving of compassion, dignity, and care.

Today, and every day, we celebrate them, stand beside them, and remind them that they matter, they are loved, and they are never forgotten. 💚💛
