CEET Friday Field Reflections

What an impactful carbon workshop held in Goxe on the 27th of May 2026!

With presentations from our CEET team; Phumzile Ntlanga, Nobuhle Mweli, and Siphelele Phillip, community members did not just sit and listen but engaged in group discussions, outdoor demonstrations of how nature is like in the rangelands and Q&A sessions where these aspects were discussed:

1. What is carbon and why it matters?
2. Better rangeland management for healthier grazing
3. How protecting the environment can create direct benefits for household?

More than 80 community members, young and old, men and women came together for an interactive and informative session. They engaged, shared ideas and got to understand the relationship between land health, climate and livelihoods, proving that when the community learns together the land wins together

Thank you to the community of Goxe for showing up, showing interest, and keenness to manage land better for the present and next generation.

Today on World Endangered Species Day🐃🌱 : we celebrate the extraordinary biodiversity of Pondoland and the communities helping to protect it.

Through strong community partnerships in the Pondoland Wildcoast, CEET supports the protection of almost 40 000 hectares of ecologically important landscapes that are home to rare and threatened flora such as the Pondoland Pincushion (Leucospermum innovans), Giant Eastern Cape Cycad (Encephalartos altensteinii), and Pondoland Palm (Jubaeopsis afra).

These beautiful and unique plant species form part of the globally significant Pondoland Centre of Endemism, one of South Africa’s richest biodiversity hotspots. Protecting endangered species means safeguarding our natural heritage, ecosystems, and future generations.

Fleece Naturally and CEET on the ground in Matheko & Lambasi!

Fleece Naturally in partnership with CEET, represented by Phikolwethu Siyotula and Siphelele Phillip respectively, met with local farmers to introduce sustainable wool production the Fleece Naturally model.

The workshop covered shearing operations, breeding for quality fleece and the key factors that impact wool quality and price. Farmers learnt how small changes in handling and production directly affect what their wool is worth in the formal market.

The team also mapped out access to Fleece Naturally’s market so that farmers get value for their wool.

The Goal: Equip farmers in Lambasi and surrounding villages with the knowledge to adopt Fleece Naturally’s operations and take control of their wool’s value.

Impact: More than 80 farmers came out indicating the keenness in local farmers to obtain knowledge on better livestock management and how they can benefit from improved market access.

Partners in fighting Foot and Mouth and Other Livestock Diseases in Alfred Nzo

Last week, the 6th of May, our Extension Officer Abuti Phurah Ntlanga had the opportunity to present in the Agriculture seminar which was hosted by the Extension Advisory Department. Mr Ntlanga’s presentation focused on the Herding4Health programme and how it creates sustainability in our communities together with assisting farmers with managing their livestock. The presentation was also an opportunity to introduce CEET and Meat Naturally and the services these organisations offer.

What a way to strengthen relationships between stakeholders, for collaboration and ensuring that quality services are provided to our local communities.

CEET Friday Field Reflections

Because CEET believes that prepared teams are strong teams, this week we conducted Training for Better Fieldwork Preparation

The week started off with the Mkambati alien clearing teams First Aid training, to stay safe and support each other in the field. The team also had hands on practice with real scenarios under these topics:
1. Field-specific risks
2. Injury response
3. CPR & emergency response

Over the past 2 days, led by our Ecology Program manager Nobuhle Mweli, our Ecology team conducted a Fire Awareness Training and a Plant Identification refresher training in Lambasi for 105 fieldworkers.
The refresher training on plant identification is to assist with continued correct identification for the teams conducting restoration work working across the Lambasi sites.

The Fire Training Awareness is to help build safer, more resilient communities. With fire season approaching, understanding how to prepare fire breaks, prevent and manage veld fires is critical for protecting lives, livestock, and our environment.

Our training unit offers a variety of accredited and non accredited training programs. Contact Ziyanda Mpati, our Operations and Training Director.
