Sandplay is a crucial component of Khazimula's therapeutic programme. Ukuthula Sandplay has been an invaluable contributor to each child's healing journey whilst in our care.

WHO IS UKUTHULA?

Ukuthula means “peace” — and that is at the heart of what we hope to create.

Since registering in August 2022, Ukuthula Sandplay has been bringing Silent Group Sandplay (SGSP) to resource-constrained communities in rural KwaZulu-Natal.

Our programmes currently run at Khazimula Child and Youth Care Centre in Lidgetton, Ethembeni Tribe of Hope in Mpophomeni, and Never Never Lands School in Cedara, where trained and supervised volunteer facilitators provide weekly group sessions.

Silent Group Sandplay offers children and adults a way to express and process inner experiences that can be difficult to put into words. It provides a safe, language-independent space for emotional expression, self-discovery and healing — while supporting several individuals at once.

We also train and upskill unemployed community members as volunteer facilitators, creating skills, opportunity and sustainable support within the communities we serve.

Our vision is simple:

Create safe spaces.
Support healing.
Build stronger communities.

📚✨ A space to learn, grow and dream!
We’re so excited to have our new EDU Room up and running. It's a dedicated space where our children can focus on their education and reach their full potential.

The EDU Room provides a quiet, welcoming environment for children to:
📖 Do their homework and keep up with schoolwork
✏️ Study and prepare for tests and exams
👩‍🏫 Attend extra lessons and receive additional academic support
🎯 Build good study habits, concentration and confidence
🌱 Learn together while encouraging and supporting one another AND once the library section is established, it will be a space for recreational reading too!

Having a dedicated study space means fewer distractions and more opportunities for our children to discover that learning can open doors to a brighter future. 💛

It is fitting that on Mandela Day our children were visited by a team from Angel Paws Therapy Dogs. Nelson Mandela was known to have a deep personal fondness for animals, and at one stage he served as a patron for the NSPCA. Thank you to Angel Paws Therapy Dogs for giving our children this therapeutic experience.

Your visit brought much fun through sports, games, and meaningful engagement, while your generous donation of essential items—from brooms and mops to soccer balls and school backpacks— all help us in providing care to the children who call Khazimula 'home'.
Your promise, "Your Goods Are Safe With Us," reflects the same care we strive to provide for each child at Khazimula, where we work to ensure that they feel safe, loved, and supported.

💙 Alfred & Sons Painters Rinko Alfred Contracting Making Every Brushstroke Count This Mandela Day 💙

A heartfelt thank you to Nhlakanipho and his team from Alfred and Sons Painters (based in Lidgetton) for choosing to give back by giving one of our dormitories a fresh coat of paint in honour of Mandela Day. Mandela Day came early to Khazimula when the team dedicated nearly 6.7 hours to painting one of our dormitories this afternoon!

A Heartfelt Thank You! 💙📚🪑

We are immensely grateful to South African Muslim Charitable Trust South African Muslim Charitable Trust for their donation of tables and chairs for our new EDU Room. The official handover of the furniture took place on 9 June 2026 and our EDU Room is now fully operational - serving as our onsite library, homework/study room, and classroom where extra lessons are facilitated, providing our children with a welcoming environment to read, learn, grow, and dream.

Every table and chair represents more than just furniture - it creates a space where children can focus on their education, build confidence, and work towards a brighter future.

Thank you South African Muslim Charitable Trust for investing in the lives and futures of our children. Your kindness and support will have a lasting impact for years to come.
