Hou kinders veilig in en rondom water..🌊🧸

Jou optrede:

✔Kinders mag nooit sonder volwasse toesig swem nie.

Onthou enige poging is beter as geen.

Drowning takes seconds to happen..
The time it takes (2-5 minutes) to respond to a text, answer the phone, sign for a packet at the door is enough to have a child submerged with fatal outcome.

Never leave children alone or in the care of other children in or around water. Be alert and present at all times or assign a responsible adult to CONSTANTly supervise children especially when you are visiting other homes or have visitors and can easily be distracted.

Never underestimate the power of water. Safe can become unsafe in a moment. Know how to perform and NEVER swim or supervise children in & around water under the influence of alcohol.
Always have a responsible designated person to supervise kids in and around water especially when you have visitors.
Drowning happens quickly and often silently without any warning signs.

Some of the quietest moments can be the most dangerous.

Drowning is often silent. It doesn't look like it does in the movies. There are no loud cries for help or dramatic splashing. It can happen in as little as 60 seconds, even in 3cm of water, and it can happen when caring adults are only a few steps away.

Every child deserves the chance to grow up safely. Every parent deserves to know that a few simple precautions can save a life.

đź’™ Never leave a child unattended near water, not even for a moment.
đź’™ Designate a responsible adult as the dedicated "Water Watcher."
đź’™ Empty buckets, paddling pools, and containers immediately after use.
đź’™ Install secure barriers around pools and keep gates self-closing and self-latching.
đź’™ Never leave a baby or toddler in the care of another child.
đź’™ Learn CPR it could make the difference between life and death while waiting for emergency services.

Drowning is one of the leading causes of preventable death in young children, but together, through awareness, education, and constant supervision, these tragedies can be prevented.

Let's always choose vigilance over distraction.
Let's prioritize prevention over heartbreak.
Let's protect the little lives entrusted to our care...

Constant adult supervision is the most important safety measure to prevent childhood . . more water safety tips:

Your swimming pool
Your swimming pool needs to be totally fenced in with a gate that automatically shuts and locks. Insist on SABS specifications and check that the lock is child-proof. Ensure there isn't a pot plant or tree that kids can use to clamber over the fence. Don't get into the habit of leaving or propping the gate open.

Ask your gardener and visitors to keep the gate shut at all times. The pool net or sail should always be fitted whenever no one is swimming. Understand how to use it properly and get it serviced according to the manufacturer's requirements.

Your actions
Although a multi-layer drowning prevention approach and swimming lessons are very important, they don't offer drown-proof protection. So never rely on lessons or inflatable pool toys, rings, arm bands or pool noodles to protect your child.

Teach your children self-rescue skills: To float and reach the side in his/her everyday clothes without aid.

Children should never be allowed to swim or play around the pool without adult supervision.
Also warn your children against playing rough in or around the pool. When supervising children in the pool, don't allow anything to distract you. Never leave toys in the pool or area to attract children unnecessarily.

Learn how to do CPR. Remember any attempt is better than none at all! Teach your child never to dive or jump into unknown waters, or when there are people in the way.
. What about the neighbour's swimming pool? If safety measures aren't in place there, ensure your children can't get to it.

If your children stay with a nanny during the day, ensure she can swim, understand all safety measures and is trained in first aid and performing .

More tips
Inspect holiday accommodation for water hazards and teach children never to wander off alone. A child should never swim alone and parents should never supervise children in or around water under the influence of alcohol.

Never leave children alone in the bath tub. Ignore the phone or door bell, or take your child along. Use a slip mat in the tub. Use a safety clip on toilets to keep it closed. Empty bath tubs, buckets and plastic splash pools immediately when you're done, and don't let them lie around.

Make sure your fish dam is child-proof. Make sure your gardener understands the importance of water safety and doesn't leave the gate open or remove the pool net. Ensure children don't have access to the jacuzzi and cover it when not in use.

If you live near a stream, dam or vlei, fence in your garden so your children can't access the water source. Always use a life jacket when you sail in a boat or go rock fishing.

Watch your kids on the beach and don't swim if there aren't lifeguards on duty. If there are follow safety instructions and only swim between the red and yellow flags.

Learn emergency numbers off by heart and ensure that whoever looks after your children also knows the numbers as well as what to do in case of an emergency.
