For 20 years, Ekukhanyeni has been walking alongside communities in Johannesburg’s informal settlements, ensuring that children receive the strong start in life they deserve through quality early learning, nourishment, and care. Through our pillars - Educate, Nourish, Empower - we train and mentor women as social entrepreneurs, early childhood educators, establish thriving food gardens, and creat

e opportunities for families to grow and flourish. What began with one small centre has blossomed into a network of ECD centres and community initiatives, all rooted in dignity, care, and love. Guided by our vision of nurturing children for tomorrow, we are building a future where every child can thrive, every woman can rise, and every community can flourish.

What a beautiful day at Pastoral ECD Centre in Kliptown.

A very big thank you to Enza Construction for hosting a joyful Sports Fun Day for our children, filled with games, movement, laughter, and so much excitement. It was wonderful to see the children taking part, cheering each other on, and enjoying a day created especially for them.

Enza Construction also created a beautiful vertical food garden at Pastoral ECD Centre, giving children a practical, living space to learn about food, growing, nature, care, and responsibility.

Since 2021, Enza Construction has funded the whole of Ekukhanyeni’s Hub C, making them one of our founding expansion partners. Their support has helped strengthen ECD centres, support practitioners, improve learning environments, and create richer opportunities for children to grow, learn, and thrive.

We are deeply grateful to the Enza Construction leadership and team for the commitment, generosity, and heart they continue to bring to this partnership.

Outstanding leadership creates lasting change, and Enza’s investment has helped build real capacity across Hub C: stronger centres, better-supported practitioners, richer learning environments, and children who are given more room to grow.

For Mandela Day 2026, let’s fill little tummies and spark little minds together.

Ekukhanyeni’s Mandela Day drive is focused on helping children in our supported ECD centres with two things they need every day:

𝗡𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄.

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗲.

For young children in under-resourced ECD centres, nourishment and learning tools can make the day feel safer, fuller and more alive with possibility.

From now until 18 July, you can support the Feed Little Bodies, Spark Little Minds drive in two simple ways:

Little firefighter hats, hot dogs, paintbrushes, goats, giggles, and sunshine ☀️🔥🌭🎨

Our children had the loveliest day out today with the Provantage team.

From fireman-themed arts and crafts to outdoor exploring and lunch packs galore, the day was filled with excitement from beginning to end.

Provantage has adopted three of our ECD centres, supporting not only early learning spaces, but also the women who care for and educate young children every day.

Thank you for giving our children such a special day ❤️

Today was such a special day for our children with the Provantage team ❤️

There were little firefighter hats, paint-covered hands, goats to visit, hot dogs, lunch packs, and many very happy little faces.

The children spent the day making fireman-themed arts and crafts, exploring outdoors, and enjoying the kind of outing children talk about long after the day is over.

Through the adoption of three Ekukhanyeni ECD centres, Provantage continues to support the heart of our work: strong early learning spaces, the women who care for and educate young children, and the everyday environments where children grow, learn, and gain confidence.

Thank you, Provantage, for such a thoughtful and joy-filled day with our children.

What a truly special day for our little ones 💛

We are so deeply grateful to Alliance Machinery for making this beautiful hands-on day possible for the children.

A day filled with wonder, laughter, and discovery unfolded as the children explored, played, and experienced the world in such a joyful, meaningful way. From feeding animals to creative activities and outdoor adventure, every moment was rich with curiosity and connection.

Mandy and members of the Alliance Machinery team joined in throughout the day, sharing in the experience and spending genuine, engaged time with the children. It meant so much to have them there, not just supporting from afar, but being present in the joy of it all.

The children absolutely loved every moment. So did we.

What a special day with Mandy and the Beswick Machinery team 💛

Through her ongoing sponsorship, Mandy supports our little ones in accessing early learning. And this week, she brought that support to life in the most beautiful way, by spending the day with them.

From arts and crafts to playground fun and feeding the animals, there was laughter, curiosity, and so many shared moments.

The children absolutely loved it. And so did we.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘀 🌱

At the Laura Vicuña Educational Center, part of our partner site Don Bosco Educational Projects in Ennerdale, children from Grades 4 to 7 are coming together after school to care for their environment, learn new skills, and grow something meaningful together.

This special club is rooted in hands-on learning. Children spend time in their vegetable corner, exploring plants, seasons, and how to nurture what they grow.

This garden holds a special place in our journey. It was one of the very first small-scale permaculture food gardens we developed many years ago, and it continues to flourish today, supplementing daily meals at the school with fresh produce.

What we are witnessing now is a beautiful continuation of that early permaculture education, living on through the school and its learners. There is something powerful in seeing that lineage of learning continue.

But what stands out most is their heart. These children are deeply aware. They notice what is happening around them. They care. And they are not afraid to speak about how things could be done better.

There is something powerful in watching young people lead with such clarity and care for the planet.

Our children had the absolute best time today, and we couldn't wait to share these photos with you! Because of your amazing generosity, the day was packed with joy and plenty of chocolate marshmallow eggs to go around.

You made this happen. Whether you donated or helped spread the word, you are the reason these precious faces are shining. It is amazing how much a small gesture matters when it comes from the heart. You’ve given our children a memory they will treasure forever.
