Scam Alert

Please be aware of an individual who has recently arrived on the West Coast with his family.

This individual is reportedly targeting faith-based organisations under the guise of collecting donations, which allegedly do not reach their stated or intended beneficiaries.

There has already been confirmation of contact with several West Coast churches. This activity may extend to local businesses and private individuals as well.

Given the nature of modern society (and the creativity of scammers), it is strongly recommended that all organisations and individuals verify the credentials of any group or individual requesting donations. This includes confirming their stated purpose and, where appropriate, requesting references or proof of registration.

There are many reputable, registered organisations through which donations can be made safely and transparently.

Please remain vigilant and do not allow scammers to fleece you of your hard-earned income using emotionally manipulative or deceptive “soft-story” tactics.

Good Morning All,

With the start of the new academic year today.

Please remember there is an increase in traffic flow, especially over Sunbird Drive and Sleigh Street.

Please SLOW DOWN when passing Topolino Primary School.

Be aware of an increase in learners on bicycles and on foot.

Parents must insist their children wear helmets and visibility vests when cycling to school.

Learners should exercise caution and come to a FULL STOP at Stop signs, give way to passing vehicles.

Learners should also avoid "racing" past cars pulling in and out of school parkings.

Leave earlier to get to your destination, many first grader parents might stay a bit longer and could cause congestion, be patient and kind, many of us were there, let them enjoy the moment.

Report reckless and illegal driving to 022-701 6834, save the registration number and memorise the location of the offense, let your passenger record it, not the driver and do not post it all over social media instead of actually reporting it to the authorities.

Be safe on the roads.

⚠️ AWARENESS NOTICE – ONLINE SALES SAFETY ⚠️

Please exercise extreme caution when using online sales platforms such as Facebook Marketplace and buy/sell groups.

A local resident recently encountered a highly insistent individual while negotiating the sale of household items. The supposed buyer repeatedly attempted to obtain the seller’s home address. When an alternative public meeting location was suggested, the individual immediately lost interest.

Further checks revealed the following:
The Facebook and WhatsApp profile used by the “buyer” had been duplicated from a female profile.
The cellphone number was registered to a male, according to Truecaller.

The male had his own unrelated Facebook profile, confirming impersonation.

Please protect yourself by following these guidelines:

✅ Always check buyer/seller ratings and profile history
🔍 Search their profile online
📱 Verify cellphone numbers using Truecaller or similar apps
🌐 Google the number for additional linked information
🚫 Never share your home address
👥 Meet in a public place, preferably with a friend or family member
💸 Never prepay for items
🏦 Do not release goods until funds have fully cleared into your account

Proofs of payment can be—and often are—faked)
If something feels off, it probably is. Trust your instincts—your safety is worth more than any bargain.
Spelling a poor grammar is usually a dead giveaway.
Stay safe out there.

Scammers are persistent, but common sense is undefeated. 🥊

Dear Residents

Our town has had its busiest festive holiday season ever, with a record number of tourists, visitors and holidaymakers visiting our beautiful town. The influx of persons was something we were all witness to, with the increased amount of traffic we experienced and endured.

According to the main players in our town, business was markedly better than any previous season, many with an increase in business, in excess of 10 percent.

The Langebaan CPF in partnership with SAPS and the Private Security industry, supported by Team Langebaan Neighbourhood Watch, Longacres Neighbourhood Watch and Municipal Law Enforcement, are extremely proud of the level of safety and security that was achieved and maintained throughout this crazy busy season.

The vast majority of holidaymakers had a great time in our town, and our local economy received a meaningful boost.

Some important information is that house burglaries decreased significantly, and SAPS arrests made for drug possession and various alcohol related matters, increased.

This is all extremely positive news for our town, and your CPF and SAPS, are really proud of this outcome. This is an outcome for which we have worked extremely hard to achieve, and will continue to strive to maintain.

The CPF would like to thank Wolf Security, Byers Security, ADT Security and Alex Alarms for their major contribution to this success.
