Ithuba Innovation Hub

Ithuba Innovation Hub iThuba provides opportunities to the young people of the community through education in science, tech Together they ran many successful global education trips.

Many children growing up in South Africa’s rural and urban townships attend underesouced schools which lack access to the current educational and technological curriculums that will prepare them for the future opportunities. Siviwe Mbinda grew up in a township school himself and did not do well in both his maths and science classes in 12th grade. He recognized that he had missed a vital foundation

in his preparation for the way the world was advancing. Having only first had the opportunity to use a computer in 2003 at 20 years old he quickly realized the gap between himself and his peers coming from more privileged backgrounds. Though his curious nature and long hours of self-education Siviwe was able to increase his knowledge in technology and STEM related subjects. Siviwe found success as an entrepreneur in the tourism sector as well as working with children in his community using dance to promote education. Through his exposure to people from different parts of the world he learned more about different educational opportunities and realized this can also be achieved in his community through partnerships and collaborations. In 2011, Siviwe met Dr. Diane Flannery, current collaborator in iThuba with her travel company Global Buddies. In 2014, Dr. Flannery’s daughter Maya designed a girls STEM program for Happy Feet. The program’s success gave Siviwe the idea to expand his afterschool school program to include programs that better prepare students for future opportunities. This program developed into the founding of ithuba Innovation Hub to further support STEM education for South African township youth. As the world becomes further and further shaped by technology and engineering, children coming from under resourced schools are left behind. The skills and opportunity gaps will only widen further if bridges to STEM education are not built. Not only does STEM open opportunities for employment, it also enables whole new sectors of employment to be created. This next generation of South Africans will be prepared to solve today’s challenges for a better tomorrow.

Surrounded by greatness. Inspired for the future. ✊🏾

Our visit to Long March to Freedom reminded us that freedom was never given — it was fought for.

Now it’s our learners’ turn to carry the legacy forward. 🌱

School isn’t just about books 📚… it’s also about laughter, freedom, and moments that make childhood unforgettable

When children are happy, their minds open, their creativity grows, and learning becomes something they love, not fear 💛

A little fun goes a long way — it builds confidence, friendships, and joy that no textbook can teach ✨

Wellness Day at iThuba 🌿✨

Today was all about slowing down, tuning in, and taking care of ourselves 🤍 We had meaningful conversations about health and what wellness looks like for each of us as individuals. From understanding our nervous system to learning how our bodies respond to stress, it was a day of growth and self-awareness.
We also took some time to reconnect with our bodies through gentle yoga and breathing exercises 🧘🏾‍♀️🌬️ Learning to pause, breathe, and be present reminded us just how important it is to take care of our minds as much as our bodies.
A beautiful reminder that wellness is not a one-time thing — it’s a journey we choose every day 💫

Today we said goodbye, but not forever 🤍✈️

What started as a visit turned into something so much deeper — friendship, connection, and memories we will carry with us for a lifetime.

Today, we created something special together. A cloth filled with our handprints and names — a symbol that no matter the distance, a part of us stays with each other. We exchanged halves, so POLY carries us back home, and we keep a piece of them here with us 🫶🏽

We also made friendship bracelets, each one holding a name, a memory, a bond that distance cannot break.

This is more than just a goodbye… it’s a promise to stay connected, to remember, and to meet again someday 🌍✨

Safe travels to Los Angeles, POLY. You will always have a home here with us ❤️
