Yellowtail candy 🎣
With the yellowtail season fast approaching! We are giving away 8 jigs to the a lucky person who shares this reel and tags their two best fishing partners in the comments below!

After one of the best jigging seasons in years in Struisbaai last season our jigs proved to be irresistible to Cape Yellowtail and large pelagic fish all along the South African coastline.

The Tail Chaser jigs have proven to have the best action for the yellowtail off Struisbaai and is a must have for fishing the Agulhas banks. Feel free to send us an inbox if you’re keen to get your hands on some!

A perfect sting 🦂

Cracked the season wide open off Cape Agulhas. Pulling plugs over countless sheets of tail, providing chaotic triple ups and an overflow of froth onboard!
With reels singing, tail vortexing below and tunes bumping in the background.. all while being the only vessel to launch off the southernmost.. It doesn’t get any better.

Priceless to be dialled in right off the bat! Nothing quite like the yellowtail two step ✨🏴‍☠️

Red mornings 🌞

We are blessed with some of the most magnificent sunrises on the East Coast. Here the sun rises through a thick blanket of smoke blown by a light offshore night wind.

Each dawn brings a new start, a new oppertunity to take a deep breath think about three things you are grateful for a start over and over again.

There is just so much magic and deep connection to the cosmos one experiences in the moments when the sun kisses the horizon.

I always get the feeling that I actually never want the l sun to set , I want it to
stay right on the horizon, not below it, not above it, just right on it.

Balancing in equilibrium between the light and rebirth of the day and the darkness and death of night.

Severe flooding experienced in Rusthof, Gordonsbay the past 24 hours with 110mm of rain falling! This caused all the storm water pipes to over flow and small perennial streams to burst their banks and flood all low laying areas.

Huge effort underway by the Rusthof community and CCT disaster management to help those stranded by the flooding!

Port & Starboard 🐼

So this morning a call came through from my friend saying that Starboard and Port have been spotted in Gordonsbay by a member of a local Whale Spotting network!

I dropped my coffee grabbed my camera and raced to Clarence drive to see if I could spot them! About 1km outside Gordonsbay I saw a car that was parked with people pointing at the sea. I pulled over and I couldn’t believe my eyes, Port and Starboard were 20m from the cliffs edge! They continued to patrol the cliffs for 15 minutes and then seemed to make a predation as oil plumed to the surface and they mulled around that spot for about 10minutes.

They suddenly then started moving offshore towards Macassar and disappeared into the bay! A magical encounter is an understatement! Falsebay is truely of of the most magical bays along the South African coastline and you really never know what the next day can bring!

For those that don’t know they are the infamous shark hunting Orca pair that has gained international fame! They have been linked to the predation of multiple White sharks in recent years. Capturing the world attention as being the new apex predators of the South African coastline.

Bikini Beach storm surge!
Over the weekend most of the South African coastline experienced a huge westerly front that pushed in a 8m 16second swell during a new moon spring tide. The swell direction being SW meant that Bikini beach would be right in the line of fire.

We went down to see if there might be some waves but we had no idea of chaos that was about to unfold. We witnessed 10 cars get swamped by the storm surge, floating around the parking area as the sets poured over the sea wall. This was by far the worst flooding I’ve ever seen at Bikini beach!

Storm surges happen when large sets of waves roll into a bay, or corner of a bay, being pushed further onshore strong winds. The inshore winds and large sets of waves traps the water much higher than a springtide level. This storm surge then doesn’t allow the water to drain back into the sea as the sea level keeps raising with as each set wave get mush onshore by strong storm winds.

All of the cars and humans made it out alive.
