People often see the photos when a team arrives, but what they don’t always see is everything that happens behind the scenes to make those moments possible.🏆

Hosting a team takes weeks of preparation. There are logistics to coordinate, supplies to purchase, routes to plan, distances to calculate, meetings to attend, and site visits to complete long before anyone steps off a plane.🇿🇦

A few weeks ago, Clive and I were in Cape Town meeting with partners, visiting project sites, and making sure everything was in place for the group arriving this Saturday. From confirming activities and accommodation to ensuring our community partners are ready to welcome guests, there is a lot of work that happens before the trip begins.🌟

We love hosting teams because we know the impact these experiences have — not only on the communities we serve, but also on the people who come alongside us.📸

We can't wait to welcome our next Crossroads GO Team on Saturday and share another incredible South African experience with them. 🇿🇦❤️

Last week, we had the privilege of welcoming Elliott Blodgett, Chairman of the Build The Future USA Board, to South Africa for our South African board meeting.🇺🇲🇿🇦

Having Elliott with us was a real gift. Beyond participating in the board meeting, he generously shared his expertise through his company, flywayadvantage.com, helping our South African board team formalize a strategic roadmap with goals stretching all the way to 2030.🏆

Together, we spent time dreaming big, challenging our thinking, and identifying practical, actionable steps that will help us grow our impact in the years ahead. The sessions encouraged us to look beyond where we are today and focus on the future we want to build for the children, teachers, and communities we serve in places where the streets have no names.🎶

We are incredibly grateful for Elliott’s leadership, wisdom, and commitment to Build The Future. The conversations and ideas that emerged from these sessions have left us energized, aligned, and excited for what lies ahead.✨️

One of the greatest gifts a board can give an organization is not just governance, but vision. Elliott helped us do exactly that.
The future is bright, and together we're building it. ❤️

A few weeks ago, we had the privilege of hosting a wonderful group of visitors from the United States.🇺🇲
The trip came about when a friend asked my wife, Baylee, and her travel company, Ubuntu and Beyond, to create a special itinerary for him, his wife, and five other couples. While he and his wife had visited South Africa many times before, their friends had never been here and had certainly never experienced life in an informal settlement like Kya Sand and a rural community - Ndwedwe 🎶
What fits so beautifully with Baylee's vision for Ubuntu and Beyond is that travel becomes more than sightseeing—it becomes an opportunity to connect with local communities and experience a different side of the country.🏆
We love hosting groups, and one of the highlights of their visit was spending time at our Kya Sand Preschool, meeting the children and seeing the community firsthand. For many, it was a truly eye-opening experience.
The children also had an unforgettable day with the mobile zoo, bravely meeting animals and even touching a ball python!🐍
These kinds of experiences remind us that travel has the power to build understanding, connection, and compassion.🌞

From container to a proper classroom ❤️

What started as a dream is now a reality at Waterfall Preschool. Thanks to an incredible team on the ground — and every person who contributed along the way — the new classroom has officially been completed.🇿🇦🇺🇲
Seeing this space transformed into a proper learning environment for the children is something really special.
A place to learn, grow, play, and build a brighter future together. ✨️
We’re deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this possible.
One classroom may not change the whole world, but for the children who will learn inside it, it changes everything.💯✨️

It’s been a few weeks since our first GO team of the year headed home, and looking back we’re reminded of just how much was accomplished.🇺🇲🇿🇦

We truly love hosting teams. As the saying goes, many hands make light work — and that couldn’t be more true. So much gets done when people come together with willing hearts and helping hands.💪

These groups also bring fresh eyes, new ideas, and practical solutions to everyday challenges. It’s always inspiring to see people from all walks of life use their skills — whether in home improvement, gardening, painting, or problem-solving — to help make a real difference.✨️

We’re grateful for every person who comes alongside us to help build the future. ❤️

Packed with purpose. ❤️

Last week, the GO team helped pack Rise Against Hunger meals for our school children — and it’s always deeply encouraging to see people giving their time to make a real difference.✨️

These meals do far more than fill stomachs. They help improve nutrition, support learning, and bring hope to children who need it most.🎶

In South Africa, where unemployment remains a major challenge, food insecurity is a daily reality for many families. That’s why every meal packed matters so much.🏆

We’re incredibly grateful to the GO team for showing up, serving with heart, and helping us continue to build the future — one meal, one child, one act of kindness at a time.

One of the things we care deeply about at Build The Future is growing fresh food right here at our Kya Sand preschool. 🌱
After giving sections of the garden time to rest over December, the new planting season is now underway. Some spinach and sweetcorn carried through from last year, but many beds were ready for a fresh start.
With the team on the ground this week, they jumped in alongside Patrick and our staff to turn the soil, prepare the beds, and plant brand-new seedlings we had ordered in advance. Perfect timing, and a huge help.
We can’t wait to watch this garden grow and continue providing fresh, healthy produce for the children we serve. 💚

We’re so grateful to welcome Leo, a young volunteer who has recently started spending time at the school in Kya Sand.
Once a week he joins the children for a variety of activities — from memory games, maths and science challenges, to sport and encouragement outside the classroom. His energy and enthusiasm have already made a wonderful impression.
Our amazing teachers do such an incredible job every day, and having Leo alongside them provides another positive role model for the children to look up to.
We’re excited to see the impact his time with the kids will have over the year ahead.
A special thank you as well to Roger for encouraging and supporting this initiative.
