On the 25th of September 2025, OMANG – Who Are You Youth Development Initiative, in partnership with Oxfam South Africa, hosted the John Taolo Gaetsewe District G20 Community Engagement Dialogue.

The dialogue brought together youth, community leaders, civil society organisations, and traditional authorities to reflect on local priorities, development challenges, and community voices that should shape South Africa’s contribution to the G20 People’s Process.

The discussions highlighted issues such as education and skills development, mining and environmental justice, youth empowerment, and inclusive community development.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who participated and shared their insights — ensuring that grassroots voices from the Northern Cape are represented on the global stage. 💚✨

Youth Day stands as a reminder of the blood that stained the streets of Soweto — not by accident, but by design. Young people, armed with nothing but their voices and rage, faced a regime that saw them as disposable. A system that denied them dignity, language, and the right to exist as human.

Today, that same fire burns in a different struggle.

A struggle against inequality, against silence, against being forgotten.

There is pain in knowing that decades later, so many still feel abandoned — still fight for quality education, jobs, and justice.
But there is also power.
Power in remembering.
Power in rising.
Power in continuing what was started.

This day demands more than celebration — it demands commitment.
Commitment to the unfinished work.
Commitment to every young person still fighting to be seen, heard, and valued.

Let the memory of 1976 not be hollow.
Let it be fuel.
Let it be fire.

We call on every one of you to join us in demanding accountability and ensuring this child’s right to safety and dignity is upheld. Today, on Human Rights Day, we reaffirm our commitment to upholding the inherent dignity and equal rights of all individuals. As an organization dedicated to social justice, we recognize that human rights are universal, indivisible, and inalienable.

We stand in solidarity with marginalized communities, particularly young women and girls, who continue to face systemic barriers to equality, justice, and freedom. We acknowledge the intersecting forms of discrimination and oppression that perpetuate human rights violations.

As we commemorate Human Rights Day in South Africa, we honour the sacrifices made during the struggle against apartheid and reaffirm our commitment to upholding human rights and dignity for all.

We call on governments, institutions, and individuals to recognize and respect the human rights of all, regardless of their race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or ability.

Let us collectively strive to create a world where:

Everyone has access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

Young women and girls are empowered to make their own choices and decisions.

Marginalized communities are heard, seen, and valued.

Human rights are protected, promoted, and respected.

Every child has access to safe environments, nutrition, and comprehensive care.
