Our Story
DOCKDA Rural Development Agency formed in April 1994 and has spent the last 26 years supporting the efforts of community-based organisations in extremely rural villages of South Africa’s Northern Cape province. The Northern Cape is an inhospitable place where services such as water, sanitation, roads, and electricity have been inadequate, leading to extensive problems of poverty, unemployment, HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence, and a lack of education. In order to combat these problems, some women in the Northern Cape formed home based care networks to assist their clients in their homes. DOCKDA’s aim is to empower these women leaders of community-based organisations with the necessary skills and resources to better serve their beneficiaries with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of people living in the Northern Cape.
