The first three years of a child's life shape everything that follows: how they think, connect, and cope. Get this stage right, and you're laying the foundation for every year of learning still to come.

Recently, we launched our new Baby & Toddler Programme and practitioner handbook.

The workshops equipped practitioners to understand the learning programme and confidently turn it into meaningful, age-appropriate lesson plans for every theme. What stood out most was the shift in thinking — practitioners understanding that simply caring for babies and toddlers is not enough; they need to understand their development and intentionally implement a programme that supports their holistic growth.

On 11 June, we launched The Magic of Knysna children's book. It features seven stories written by people who love this town. Every rand from every copy goes directly to the ECD centres KET supports.

Mandela Day is a chance to give back. Here's how your one donation can impact many children for a full year 💫

KET partners with 75 early learning centres across the Knysna municipality, most in communities where parents already struggle to find R270 a month for preschool fees.

Take Happy Kidz Daycare in New Rest. Principal Hazel opened it in 2021 with a few children — today, she and two teachers care for 19. Their government registration sits at Bronze: the first rung on a ladder they can't climb without help. Many centres like theirs can't access government funding until they reach a certain standard, but reaching that standard takes support they don't have. They need help to qualify for help.

Adopt a Centre for Excellence: your donation of R3,240 pools with other donors to fund infrastructure upgrades, resources, and better pay for teachers — closing that gap, step by step. Real, lasting change, long after Mandela Day is over.

Speak to your child's principal before you fall behind — arrangements can sometimes be made. And in the meantime, your time counts too: painting, gardening, food prep, reading to the children, donated items, or helping at a fundraiser.

Whatever your situation, there is always a way to contribute to your child's education ☺️
