Get to Know Us!

We are an NPO based in Durban, South Africa. The founding vision of Hooked in Africa was to bring women together; to build community and relationship while learning a new skill. A new skill that could help the women generate an income but also bring a greater sense of purpose and accomplishment.

We taught the ladies to crochet. They were quick to learn but they lacked the resources and know-how to capitalize on their new skill. Therefore, we developed products that we could sell and market on their behalf.

Hooked in Africa is more than simply making beautiful products to sell. It is also about creating a space for authentic community. God created us for relationship (Genesis 2: 18), yet far too often people are isolated and alone. We know an authentic space for community has been created as the ladies chose to continue meeting even if we can’t be there, the task is important but so to are the relationships. This is very exciting as it shows ownership; ultimately it is their project.

Our hope is that our group will deepen it’s foundations and grow, and that our current ladies will become the teachers of those who join us. Our hope is that as they are empowered they will empower others, effecting change in their families, their communities and their nation! Hooked in Africa is a ministry of YWAM Durban
