Today is Hellen Keller Day!

On June 1, 1971, the Lions Clubs International Board of Directors officially declared this day to honor the lasting legacy of Helen Keller.

Back in 1925, Helen Keller attended our International Convention and issued an unforgettable challenge. She asked Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." We accepted that challenge with open hearts.

Decades later, sight conservation and the fight against preventable blindness remain at the very core of who we are.

Today, Lions clubs around the globe celebrate by organising vision screenings, collecting eyeglasses, and supporting eye care programs for underserved communities.

We continue to honour her vision through dedicated local action and community service.

Thank you to all the Mom's and GrandMom's that have enriched our lives so deeply. Without your love, care, compassion and gentle kindness we would not be the men and women we are today. We salute you ! Happy Mother's Day and enjoy your special day !

Service isn’t just what we do… it’s who we are.

This Workers’ Day, we recognise the hard work behind every act of service in our community.

Our fundraising, our projects, our impact… all of it is built on people who are willing to give their time and effort for others.

That’s what makes a community stronger.
Happy Workers’ Day!

🎶 Introducing Our First Junior Instrumental, Bands & Orchestra Adjudicator 🎶

We are proud to introduce Boudina McConnachie as the first of our esteemed adjudicators for the Junior Instrumental, Bands and Orchestra categories at this year’s Eisteddfod.

Dr McConnachie (PhD, MMus, BMus, PGCE, RULS) is an Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology at Rhodes University, where she serves as Head of the Department of Music and Musicology. A versatile musician, she specialises in both classical flute and African percussion, and is deeply involved in teaching and learning at the International Library of African Music, integrating Indigenous Knowledge Systems into her work.

Her excellence in teaching and scholarship has been recognised through numerous prestigious awards, including:
- Rhodes University Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award (2023)
- South African National Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences Best Exhibition Catalogue Award (2024)
- National Universities Teaching Award for South Africa (2024)

Dr McConnachie has also been a fellow in the Future Professors Programme (FPP) and the South African Teaching Advancement at Universities (TAU) Programme, and currently serves as a Fellow of the Centre for Creative Ethnography at Queen’s University Belfast.

With extensive international adjudication experience across both Western Art and African musical genres, we are honoured to have her expertise guiding and inspiring our young musicians.

Perform. Inspire. Achieve.
