We are proud to share the publication of the Review of the Interventions supporting Nurses’ palliative care education needs in low and middle income countries like South Africa. We are grateful to have been involved in this research showing the need for a systemic review, especially in asbestos-related disease areas like the Northern Cape. Working alongside nurses will allow us to educate them on the symptoms, care needs and more for illnesses such as .

Today we honour the nurses who show up with compassion, strength, and care, often during some of life’s most difficult moments.
For individuals and families navigating mesothelioma and other asbestos-related illnesses, nurses are so much more than healthcare professionals. They are a source of comfort, guidance, reassurance, and dignity.
Their care extends beyond treatment. It lives in the quiet moments, the listening, the patience, the steady support given to patients and loved ones alike.

At the Glynnis Gale Foundation, we recognise and deeply value the role nurses play in helping people feel seen, supported, and cared for throughout their journey.

Today, we thank you for the work you do and the compassion you bring to it every day.

This Workers Day, we honour not only those who worked in challenging environments, but also those who continue to care for them.
Nurses and healthcare workers play a vital role in supporting individuals affected by mesothelioma and other asbestos-related illnesses, offering not just medical care, but compassion, dignity, and presence during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Their work often goes beyond treatment. It is about listening, guiding, and standing alongside patients and families through every stage of the journey.

At the Glynnis Gale Foundation, we see and value the role they play, and we remain committed to supporting both patients and the wider care community.

Because care is work that changes lives.

Freedom Day reminds us of the value of dignity, equality, and the right to live with care and respect.

For many families affected by asbestos-related illness, these rights take on a deeply personal meaning, including the simple, fundamental right to breathe freely.

It is also the right to be heard, to be supported, and to navigate illness with understanding and compassion.

At the Glynnis Gale Foundation, we stand alongside individuals and families on this journey, offering guidance, raising awareness, and helping ensure that no one faces it alone.

Because true freedom includes dignity, care, and the ability to breathe freely.

As Global Asbestos Awareness Week comes to a close, the message remains clear.

The legacy of asbestos continues to affect communities across the Northern Cape and beyond.
Through awareness, education, and support, we can ensure that families affected by asbestos-related disease are heard and supported.

Together we continue raising awareness, not just this week, but every day.

Anna Margaret van Syfer never worked in an asbestos mine, yet asbestos claimed her life.
Growing up in the Northern Cape, she lived and worked near mining areas where asbestos dust filled the air, settled in homes, and became part of everyday life. From her workplace next to an asbestos storage site, to her home near Koegas, exposure was constant, even through family members who unknowingly carried dust home.
Decades later, at the age of 77, Anna was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a cancer caused by asbestos exposure.
Her story is a reminder that asbestos did not only affect mine workers. Entire communities were exposed.
And many are still living with the consequences today.
If you or someone in your family has been affected, you are not alone in this.
The Glynnis Gale Foundation is here to offer support and guidance, and Enviro Investigations can help you better understand your exposure and possible next steps.
