SAFIHRO has been founded by a descendant of the Griqua people, Barend Christoffel van Wyk for the promotion and protection of Khoe San Peoples' (indigenous brown peoples) rights based on the principles, standards and mechanims of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples'.

Water Crisis in Boegoeberg, Kheis Municipal Area.

Saturday 8 October 2022 at 14h15 I received a call from a friend and member of the House of the Griquas of Griqualand West who are in Boegoeberg for a funeral, he inform me that Boegoeberg does not have water for the past two weeks for its residence.

The Kheis Municipality and Escom is to blame for this serious human rights violation and the South African Bill of Rights.

We hope that the media can come to the rescue of the Boegoeberg community.

International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 2021

On 23 December 1994, the United Nations General Assembly decided, in its resolution 49/214, that the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People shall be observed on 9 August every year.

The date marks the first meeting, in 1982, of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations.

The International Day observance will take place online on Monday, 9 August 2021 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Eastern Standard Time (EST).

This year’s theme is is Leaving No One Behind: Indigenous peoples and the call for a new social contract.
