MKI South Africa

MKI South Africa Serving the community, empowering people to take control of their own health - have your say, we can only make the change if we are all talking about it!

MKI (Medical Knowledge Institute), an international non-profit organization, strongly believes that healthcare is a human right and through our health educational programs we are motivated to empower communities to take control of their own health. Public health experts, from around the world, educate MKI Health Teachers in relevant health materials that they then deliver, using the “Prevention through Education” motto, to their community at large.

Medikidz and The Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation Youth Centre organised a Challenge Day to help the young people who attend the centre understand HIV. After reading the comics they had to come up with a play or song addressing what they had learnt from the book - they had a great day!

MKI are blessed to be involved in this great initiative and are praying for great breakthrough in child's dental health in Khayelitsha.

In April we began a pilot oral health education programme in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. On 4th April, 19 teachers and healthcare workers were trained as tooth-brushing supervisors. The first initial screening of 250 children began on 8th April. Here are some photos from the training day and initial screening.

MKI SA are honoured to have walked the journey with this little girl, Lindokuhle, who stays very near our health information centre in Khayelitsha. Super excited to see that Lindo has made a full and healthy recovery and she will be turning 6 this year!

Medical Ward B2 at the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital was reopened today by Minister Botha, after its much needed upgrade. Little Lindokuhle, one of the Hospital's past patients was one of the first to get a tour and give her stamp of approval!
