Last night, we gathered to celebrate our annual Rotary Induction Dinner, reflecting on a year of service and fellowship while looking ahead to the opportunities of a new Rotary year.

A heartfelt thank you to Past President Bruce for his leadership, dedication and commitment over the past year. Through his guidance, our club continued to make a meaningful difference in our community through a wide range of projects and initiatives.

Congratulations to President Michael as he takes up the mantle for the year ahead. With Creating Lasting Impact as Rotary's theme for the year, we look forward to another year of friendship, service and positive change in our community.โœจ๏ธ

The evening was also an opportunity to recognise some very deserving Rotarians:

๐Ÿ† Jim Davies received the President's Significant Achievement Award for his dedicated service to Rotary Club projects.

๐Ÿ† Sandy Smith was recognised with a Service Above Self Award for her enormous commitment to the Kenton SEES Project.

๐Ÿ† Alan Malan received the Slater Memorial Wheel of Friendship Award for his dedication to the countless behind-the-scenes tasks that help keep our club running smoothly.

๐Ÿ† Joy de Bruin was honoured with a Paul Harris Fellow recognition for her continued work on the Fish and Chips Babies Project.

๐Ÿฅ„ And, in true Rotary fashion, Mike Peter received the coveted Wooden Spoon Award!

Congratulations to all our award recipients and thank you for the difference you make.

A special thank you to Jerryโ€™s Kenton for a superb dinner and wonderful hospitality. Thank you to Alan and his team for all the hard work behind the scenes that helped make the evening so special.

Finally, thank you to all our honoured guests, fellow Rotarians and friends who joined us for the evening. Your support and fellowship are what make Rotary such a special organisation.๐Ÿ’™

Here's to a new Rotary year, new opportunities to serve, and creating lasting impact together. โœจ๏ธ

A few weeks ago, our Rotarians added more than a splash of red to an evening of fellowship, laughter and good company.

Serving our communities takes teamwork, and friendship is an important part of Rotary. Evenings like this give us a chance to connect, share a few laughs and enjoy each other's company.

No agendas. No projects. Just Rotary friends getting together and having a little fun. โœจ๏ธ

The Rotary Club of Kenton-on-Sea recently had the privilege of welcoming conservationist, veterinarian, Paul Harris Fellow and long-time friend of Kenton, Dr William Fowlds, as our guest speaker.

Together with his wife, Heidi, Will now divides his time between Amakhala and Kenton and remains deeply involved in conservation initiatives across the Eastern Cape and beyond.

Will provided members with the latest insights into the ongoing fight to save Africa's rhinos, sharing both the challenges facing the species and the reasons for hope.

He also spoke about the importance of creating "mega living landscapes" โ€” connected conservation areas where wildlife, ecosystems and communities can thrive together.

Will shared the trailer of The Last Ranger with us all, the Oscar-nominated short film filmed at Kariega and Amakhala Game Reserves. While the film did not take home the Academy Award, its nomination helped shine a global spotlight on the fight to save rhinos and the conservation work taking place right here in the Eastern Cape.

Will also recognised the important role the Kenton community continues to play in supporting rhino conservation through initiatives such as The Kenton Rhino Run. He commended the commitment of our local community, and shared his enthusiasm for the plans taking shape for this year's Kenton Rhino Rising Weekend, planned for 17-20 September.

Perhaps the greatest takeaway from the evening was that conservation is not only about protecting a species. It is about building a future where people, wildlife and landscapes can thrive together.

Thank you, Will, for sharing your knowledge, passion and optimism with our club.๐Ÿ’™

The Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea is honoured to be part of the Blood Drive Campaign.

On 1 June 2026, SANBS officially launched BE THE LIFELINE, a campaign celebrating 25 years of being trusted to save lives.

Coverage is rolling out across radio stations and social media platforms, so keep your eyes and ears open as the message comes to life across the country.

Why this campaign matters

For 25 years, SANBS has called on South Africans to donate blood, and they have done so. Through every crisis, donors have rolled up their sleeves and kept the lifeline flowing and many of you have been among them.

But the lifeline does not start or end with blood donation alone. It takes all of us. From providing venues and promoting blood drives to encouraging donors and supporting our initiatives, your partnership plays a vital role in helping us save lives. Every successful blood drive is the result of a collective effort between SANBS, our donors, and valued partners like you. Together, we ensure that lifesaving blood products are available for patients when they need them most.

And because of that collective effort, tomorrow becomes real for someone every single day. A grandparent holds a new life in their arms. A child starts their first day of school. A family shares another meal together, grateful for one more moment. These are the moments we make possible, together.

Like a lifeline that never breaks, SANBS continues to move forward, striving for excellence and responding to the ever-changing needs of patients across our country.

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’› Rotarians roll up their sleeves for Kenton's coastline๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

This morning, members of the Rotary Club of Kenton-on-Sea joined fellow community volunteers on the beach to help clear the natural debris that was washed downstream during the recent floods.

Following the heavy rains and swollen rivers, large amounts of reeds, branches and other vegetation found their way to the shoreline. With rakes, gloves and plenty of community spirit, volunteers worked together to help restore the beach ahead of the busy holiday period.

A special thank you to everyone who gave up part of their morning to lend a hand. It was wonderful to see so many local organisations, residents and visitors working side by side for a common purpose. Thank you to KOSRA and Estuary Care for coordinating the initiative, and to all those who contributed their time, effort, equipment and support.

As Rotarians, we believe that small acts of service, when multiplied across a community, can make a meaningful difference.

Thank you to all who helped care for this special place we call home. ๐Ÿ’›

Service Above Self.

๐Ÿฉธ Kenton's Blood Drive is underway! ๐Ÿฉธ

A huge thank you to everyone who has already rolled up their sleeves to help save lives today.

There's still time to donate!

๐Ÿ“ Kenton Town Hall
โฐ Until 3:00pm

Every blood donation can help save up to three lives, and the process takes only about 30 minutes.

If you're healthy, eligible and able to donate, we'd love to see you. Pop in, say hello, and make a difference to someone you'll probably never meet.

Thank you to SANBS for partnering with the Rotary Club of Kenton-on-Sea, and to our wonderful community for always showing up when it matters most. โค๏ธ

Kenton Sees Outreach โ€“ 12 May 2026

The recent Kenton Sees Outreach held on 12 May 2026 was another very successful and rewarding day for our community.

Due to having only a single optician on duty, numbers were capped at 80 patients for the day.

A total of 70 patients were seen, while the remaining 10 patients have been scheduled to attend the next screening day on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. Each of these patients has received an invitation card which will allow them priority access on that day.

Outcomes from the 70 patients seen:
47 patients will receive spectacles, including two children approximately 6 years old.

13 patients received reading glasses.

3 patients only required scripts for eye drops.

11 patients have been referred to see an Ophthalmologist in Grahamstown.

1 patient required emergency treatment and was seen in Grahamstown on Thursday, 14 May. She will be admitted to hospital on 29 May, with surgery scheduled for 1 June.

Altogether, it was a very successful and meaningful day.

We are extremely grateful to the dedicated team from Davis Optometrists in Grahamstown who continue to travel down to conduct these screenings.

A sincere thank you also goes to our faithful Rotarians who support the project on the day and work tirelessly to fundraise, making this outreach possible.

Special appreciation must also be extended to the doctors from Provincial Hospital in Port Elizabeth, who spend the day in Grahamstown caring for patients requiring treatment beyond spectacles. Their work is indispensable. Without their assistance, there would be no cataract operations, and many patients would ultimately lose their sight due to untreated conditions.

Thursday, 14 May 2026 โ€“ Follow-Up Clinic in Grahamstown

Thursday, 14 May was dedicated to follow-up appointments in Grahamstown for patients from Klipfontein, Marcelle, and Ekuphumleni who require ongoing six-month specialist reviews.

Five patients were transported to Grahamstown and were seen by Dr Gila from Provincial Hospital, Port Elizabeth.

One of these patients was the individual requiring urgent assistance following complications that developed six weeks after cataract surgery.

The remaining four patients are all being treated for Glaucoma or diabetic-related eye complications. These patients see the specialist regularly to monitor and manage their conditions to prevent further deterioration.

Some patients also received scripts, which are subsequently dispensed through the pharmacy at Port Alfred Hospital.

These continued follow-up visits are critically important in ensuring that vulnerable patients receive ongoing specialist care and retain the best possible quality of vision and life.

ONLY 2 DAYS TO GO
*๐Ÿ‘“ KENTON SEES โ€“ Restoring Vision, Restoring Dignity*

The Rotary Club of Kenton-on-Sea is proud to run Kenton Sees, a project that provides free eye care to approximately 200 people in our community who would otherwise go without.

We invite local businesses and employers to partner with us by sponsoring R50 per employee (for staff without medical aid), including domestic workers and gardeners.

A small contribution can have a life-changing impactโ€”giving someone the ability to see clearly, work confidently, and live independently.

๐Ÿ’™ Be part of something truly meaningful.
