As part of the Wilderness Experience, our volunteers often get a chance to go night fishing if the weather allows. This provides an amazing opportunity to see some different species of fish and sharks. Anything caught is recorded for research data and tagged and released back into the ocean.

The SWE programme kickstarted the vegetable garden project at Klipfontein Primary School to promote environmental stewardship, nutrition education and practical learning.

Phase 1 began with building sustainable garden boxes, which we plan to install. However, as we know South Africa is a water scarce country and the school struggles to store water. Enter phase 2…

SWE volunteers, with the assistance of Leon began fitting valved taps onto the school’s water tanks. Soon we will be cleaning debris from the gutters, removing down pipes and relocating some tanks to allow for functional flow and maximum water retention.

Additionally, the volunteers with the help of eager learners spruced up the school’s front garden with Aloes and Spekboom to increase the aesthetic beauty but to potentially facilitate ecological processes like pollination in early spring.

SWE is excited to have partnered with Klipfontein Primary School and hope to nurture this ongoing relationship. Stay tuned for more updates on exciting projects coming soon!

This Earth Day we reflect on what it means to protect and restore the natural world.

At Sibuya Wilderness Experience, conservation is part of daily life. From clearing invasive vegetation to supporting ongoing wildlife research, every effort plays a role in maintaining this landscape for future generations.

We also open our reserve to volunteers from around the world who want to be part of this work. It is a chance to step into the field, learn, and make a real contribution to conservation.

If you are looking for a way to get involved and give your time to something meaningful, this is an opportunity to do just that.

One of the many adventures our volunteers get to experience. Canoeing on the Kariega estuary is something truly special, with dramatic cliffs on one side and beautiful game reserve on the other, offering a chance to see some of the animals from a completely different perspective!

The Sibuya Wilderness Experience team have started working on a new community outreach project, where they will be starting a vegetable garden at Klipfontein Primary School. Today was the first step of the project where the volunteers went along to the school and, with help of Mr Lawson, our amazing carpenter, and his team, they made the first of the garden boxes.

One of the most scenic activities that our volunteers do is the walk to Dias Cross. A beautiful beach and cliff walking traversing some of South Africa’s most beautiful beaches! This group were lucky enough to see dolphins frolicking in the waves and depending on the time of year, whales can also been spotted!
