Union’s Education Specialist Outlines National Expectations for Rollout.

SADTU National Education Specialist, Comrade Brenda Ndelu, is outlining national expectations for the rollout of the Teacher Union Collaboration (TUC) Assessment for Learning (AfL) programme to 44 Master Trainers at the workshop taking place at BON Hotel in Rustenburg.

Comrade Ndelu stressed that Master Trainers must be prepared, professional and punctual. She also urged them to ensure that members of other unions who wish to attend the training during the rollout are welcomed and given the opportunity to participate and be trained.

The programme aligns with SADTU’s Pillar One: of Servicing Union Members and Pillar Two of Creating a Learning Nation, as outlined in the Union’s Vision 2030.

North West is the eighth province to host the programme, with the Northern Cape set to be the final province next week.

North West Convenor Outlines Provincial Expectations for AfL Master Trainers.

SADTU North West Education Convenor, Comrade Malema Matladi, is outlining provincial expectations for 44 Master Trainers at the TUC Assessment for Learning (AfL) workshop in Rustenburg.

The Master Trainers will return to their regions to cascade the AfL programme and strengthen teaching and learning through effective implementation.

Group Five has completed its facilitation on Formative Assessment Strategy 4 (FAS4) at an ongoing TUC Assessment for Learning (AfL) workshop in Rustenburg.

Fellow Master Trainers provided constructive feedback on the facilitation, sharing insights and reflections aimed at strengthening their collective understanding and practice of AfL.

SADTU North West Master Trainers are focusing on Formative Assessment Strategy 4 (FAS4) on day two of the TUC Assessment for Learning (AfL) workshop in Rustenburg.

The session emphasises descriptive feedback, helping learners understand what they have achieved, where they need to improve and how they can make further progress. It equips Master Trainers with practical strategies to help learners identify their achievements, areas for improvement and next steps in their learning.

Forty four SADTU North West Master Trainers are actively facilitating Formative Assessment Strategy 3 (FAS 3) in groups during the ongoing Teacher Union Collaboration (TUC) Assessment for Learning (AfL) Workshop in Rustenburg.

The practical sessions are equipping Master Trainers with hands on strategies to use questions, discussions and learning activities to gather evidence of learners’ understanding and improve teaching and learning.

Master Trainers are working in groups to develop lesson plans that they will facilitate as part of the training, putting AfL principles into practice.

Comrade Solomon Says AfL Must Shift Classroom Practice.

SADTU Vice President Education Comrade Faseega Solomon says Assessment for Learning (AfL) is not simply about assessment, but a pedagogy aimed at improving teaching and learning.

“As teachers, you can’t stagnate because you are preparing learners for a changing world,” Vice president Solomon said.

She cautioned against an overemphasis on tests and examinations, saying excessive focus on summative assessment can narrow the curriculum, promote rote learning and limit creativity, critical thinking and problem solving.

Vice president Solomon urged educators to focus on learner progress, meaningful feedback, active learning and targeted support.

“Let us not concentrate on the score. Let us concentrate on progress,” she said.
