SIOC-CDT SA

SIOC-CDT SA SIOC-CDT SA SIOC-CDT is governed by a Board of Trustees and the framework for operations is prescribed in the Trust Deed.
(1)

The Sishen Iron Ore Company (SIOC) (PTY) LTD, in diversifying its shareholding to historically disadvantaged individuals, chose to empower the communities that played host to its operations through the principles of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment. The objective is for communities to become economically active and empowered to the extent that they would be sustainable even when the mine has

closed. The vehicle chosen for this was the SIOC Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT), the custodian of the investment made into the communities, and the operational entity to provide oversight to all the activities related to the beneficiary communities.

🎓 Empowering Futures Through Opportunity and Collaboration🎓

Phunya Tsela Career Expo 2026, organised by the JTG Trust in partnership with Sefala Strategic Solutions and supported by SIOC-CDT together with other development-oriented organisations, is taking place from 24–25 June 2026 at the Thabo Moorosi Community Hall in Mothibistad, Kuruman.

This impactful initiative is expected to reach more than 4,000 matric learners from across the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District, providing them with valuable information and guidance on career pathways, higher education opportunities, skills development programmes, bursaries, and employment prospects.
The Expo is a testament to what can be achieved when organisations collaborate to invest in the future of young people. Through the collective support of sponsors and partners committed to education, skills development, and youth empowerment, learners are being equipped with the knowledge and opportunities needed to make informed decisions about their future careers.

SIOC-CDT Education, Training and Skills Development is proud to be part of this initiative, engaging directly with learners and sharing information on its various programmes, including the Bursary Fund Programme, skills development opportunities, educational support initiatives, and other pathways designed to unlock potential and create sustainable opportunities for youth.
Together, we are building brighter futures, expanding access to opportunities, and inspiring the next generation of leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs.

🚀 The Northern Cape chapter of the SIOC-CDT Youth Enterprise Acceleration Programme officially kicked off today in Gamagara (Kathu), at the SIOC-CDT Office Park!

From 22–26 June 2026, youth-owned enterprises will embark on an intensive week of business development, funding readiness, innovation support, strategic networking, and enterprise growth opportunities.

In partnership with government institutions and enterprise development ecosystem partners, the programme is designed to equip young entrepreneurs with the knowledge, tools, and connections needed to build sustainable and competitive businesses.

This is more than a workshop series, it's a platform for unlocking potential, accelerating growth, and creating pathways to long-term economic participation.

We are thankful to our collaboration partners who participated in this first session and shared invaluable information with the youth enterprises i.e. SEDFA, Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (NCDEDT), National Empowerment Fund (NEF), Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) and Productivity SA.

Watch this space as we journey with the entrepreneurs shaping the future of the Northern Cape.

🌟 SIOC-CDT Receives Special Recognition at the Nedbank Oliver Top Empowerment Awards 2026🌟

The SIOC Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) is honoured to have received a Highly Commended Certificate of Recognition in the Top Empowered: Youth Development of the Year category at the 2026 Nedbank Oliver Top Empowerment Awards.

This recognition is particularly special as SIOC-CDT was the only organisation to receive a Highly Commended Certificate of Recognition at this year's awards, highlighting the exceptional impact of our youth development initiatives and our contribution towards creating opportunities for young people in our beneficiary communities.

The Trust was also proud to be shortlisted as a finalist in four categories, namely:

- Socio-Economic Development Award of the Year

- Youth Development Award of the Year

- Job Creation Award of the Year

- Education and Skills Development Award of the Year

As a first-time participant in the Nedbank Oliver Top Empowerment Awards, which have celebrated transformation and empowerment excellence for more than 25 years, this recognition represents an important milestone in the history of SIOC-CDT.

The awards ceremony was attended by a delegation representing the Trust's leadership and key stakeholders, including Executive Management led by CEO Ms Anita Loots, the Board of Trustees led by Chairperson Mr Llewellyn Delport, and representatives of our founder and donor, Kumba Iron Ore, led by the CEO Ms Nompumelelo Zikalala.

This achievement comes at a particularly meaningful time as SIOC-CDT prepares to celebrate 20 years of impact, trust and building resilient communities later this year.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our beneficiary communities, Board of Trustees, employees, partners, Kumba Iron Ore, and all stakeholders who continue to support our vision. This recognition belongs to all of us and inspires us to continue creating opportunities and transforming lives for generations to come.

Empowering the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs
Today marked the successful conclusion of the week-long SIOC Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) Youth Enterprise Acceleration Programme in Thabazimbi, delivered in partnership with Mr Price Foundation, SANParks, Startup Grind, NYDA, and SEDFA.

Over the past week, young entrepreneurs immersed themselves in practical business development training, mentorship, entrepreneurial skills development, networking opportunities, and investment readiness support designed to help grow and scale their businesses.
Today, participants put the week’s hard work, dedication, and learning into practice by crafting and presenting their individual business pitches before adjudicators. 43 youth-owned enterprises advanced to the adjudication stage, showcasing innovation, resilience, and the incredible entrepreneurial talent within our communities.

Congratulations to the three outstanding seed funding winners, who shared R60,000 in seed funding support:
🥇 La Belle Beauty Studio – R30,000 (Personal Care)
🥈 Mole’s Eatery – R20,000 (Hospitality)
🥉 Chief Woodwork – R10,000 (Manufacturing)
These businesses represent the spirit of innovation, determination, and local economic transformation that this programme seeks to nurture.
SIOC-CDT extends its sincere gratitude to all our partners, facilitators, mentors, adjudicators, and participants who contributed to the success of this impactful initiative. We now look forward with excitement to the Northern Cape chapter of this important youth empowerment initiative, commencing on 22 June 2026.

Together, we are creating pathways for youth empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, and inclusive economic growth.
