π¨π A 2-METRE CAPE COBRA FOUND NEAR SESHENG! ππ¨
Today, our volunteer Lourens was called out after residents spotted a snake near Sesheng.
Upon arrival, the snakeβs striking yellow-golden colour immediately caught his attention β a colour commonly associated with the Cape Cobra. ππ
The search began! ππΏ
After carefully searching the area where the snake was last seen, Lourens spotted the big guy hiding in the bushes! π³
And this was no small snakeβ¦
π Approximately 2 METRES long!
The snake was inspected and confirmed as a Cape Cobra (Naja nivea).
π CAPE COBRA FACTS
β οΈ The Cape Cobra is a highly venomous snake and should never be approached or handled by untrained people.
π‘ They can occur in a range of colours, including yellow, golden, brown and darker shades.
π Cape Cobras are generally active during the day.
π½οΈ Their diet includes rodents, birds, lizards, frogs and other small prey.
π‘οΈ When threatened, they may raise the front part of their body and spread their hood as a warning.
β οΈ If you encounter one, keep your distance and give it a clear escape route. Do not attempt to catch or kill it.
π A BIG thank you to the residents who reported the snake instead of killing it!
By reporting snakes, we can help protect both our community and our wildlife. β€οΈπ
