The Sweethearts Foundation now has 200 Collection Points across South Africa!

Behind every Collection Point are volunteers who give their time, share their space, and dedicate themselves to a project they believe in. They are the backbone of our Foundation. Their commitment makes the whole process work, helping our Collectors donate their tops, tags, tabs, and lids so we can help provide life-changing wheelchairs. ♿

A wheelchair, a community, and a new chapter for Balungile

In July, Balungile Shandu suffered a stroke that changed her daily life. Since then, she has been receiving rehabilitation at Lenmed Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre, working to regain strength and independence.

As her family prepared for the next stage of her recovery, they reached out to Sweethearts Foundation for help with a wheelchair.

Thanks to our collectors, partners and volunteers, we were able to help. 💚

Balungile’s wheelchair will support her mobility as she continues her recovery, making it easier for her family to help her get to appointments and spend time with loved ones.

Thank you to EPR Waste Association of South Africa for helping make this handover possible, and to our dedicated volunteers for the care and time they give.

To everyone collecting bottle tops, bread tags, pull tabs and takeaway coffee lids: your small actions are part of stories like Balungile’s.

Independence. Possibility. Belonging. ❤️

Sidney’s customised electric wheelchair has been handed over, and a community helped make it happen.

During a freezing Cape Town storm, Sidney was making his way along the Sea Point promenade in his wheelchair, trying to return to the bus stop where he had been sleeping. Then Chad Nathan stopped. That moment of kindness brought Sidney’s story to light and sparked an outpouring of support.

Chad Nathan, Souper Troopers NPO, The Angel Network and supporters across South Africa and beyond came together, showing Sidney that he was seen, valued and supported.

Through the Sweethearts Foundation and Shonaquip Social Enterprise, Sidney received a customised electric wheelchair, tailored to his needs through a professional assessment process.

A heartfelt thank you to our corporate partner, Aquazania, for funding Sidney’s wheelchair. Your support made this handover possible and opened up new possibilities for Sidney’s everyday independence, movement and choice. ❤️

Heritage Day celebrates the cultures, traditions and communities that make South Africa special. This 24 September 2026, let’s celebrate that shared spirit by coming together to give back.

Join the Sweethearts Foundation’s HeriTAGe Day Sorting and help sort bottle tops and bread tags to fund wheelchairs for people who need them.

Just an hour or two of your time can help change someone’s life forever. This is community work with a lasting impact, helping someone gain greater independence, freedom and mobility.

Not every bottle top belongs in the collection. Do you know which ones we can accept? ♻️

We collect bottle tops marked:

✅ #2 HDPE
✅ #4 LDPE
✅ #5 PP

Before delivering your collection, please make sure every bottle top is:

🎨 Sorted by colour
💧 Clean and completely dry
🚫 Free from food, dirt, rubber seals and inserts
📦 Securely packed and clearly labelled

Correct sorting helps our recycling partners process more material efficiently, turning everyday bottle tops into life-changing mobility for people across South Africa.
