Unfortunately, thousands of South Africans still face the challenges of immobility, relying on others for assistance or resorting to u

We're Growing Our Volunteer Leadership Team 💜

As The Sweethearts Foundation continues to grow across South Africa, we're looking for passionate volunteers who are ready to take on a more active role within the organisation.

We are currently recruiting:

📍 Regional Impact Managers
📍 Community Coordinators

These volunteer leadership roles will help strengthen our communities, support our Collection Point network, raise awareness, and expand our impact across the country.

Regional Impact Manager opportunities are currently available in:
• Gauteng
• Free State
• Limpopo
• Mpumalanga
• North West
• Northern Cape

Community Coordinator opportunities are available in cities and towns across South Africa.

Imagine not being able to leave your home without someone carrying you.

Imagine watching life happen around you while depending on others for every outing, every appointment, every trip to the shops, every visit to friends and family.

For many South Africans living with mobility challenges, this is their reality.

The right wheelchair changes everything.

It means getting back to school.
Getting to work.
Going to church.
Visiting family.
Being part of life again.

Hope. Dignity. Freedom. ❤️♿

For Louis, this moment is life-changing.

Due to the progression of her disability, she had reached a point where independent movement was no longer possible. The physical demands of using a manual wheelchair exceeded her strength and endurance, leaving her reliant on constant assistance for daily mobility.

An electric wheelchair was not simply a preference. It was a necessity.

Today, thanks to the incredible support of our community and an anonymous donor, Louis has officially received her new electric wheelchair, restoring not only her mobility, but also her independence, comfort, and dignity.

This wheelchair will help reduce physical strain, prevent exhaustion and overexertion, and allow Louis to move through life with greater confidence and freedom.

Every bottle top collected. Every bread tag saved. Every soda tab donated. Every contribution made through our community has helped make moments like this possible.

Louis, may this wheelchair open the door to a new chapter filled with joy, comfort, and freedom. 💛

🇿🇦 He thought nobody saw him. South Africa proved him wrong.

In the middle of a freezing City of Cape Town storm, Sidney was filmed in his wheelchair along the Sea Point promenade, trying to make his way back to the bus stop where he had been sleeping.

Then one person stopped.

Chad Nathan came across Sidney in the rain and chose kindness, and that single moment changed everything.

What followed was an outpouring of love and support from South Africans across the country and around the world, reminding Sidney that he is not forgotten, unseen, or alone.

But Sidney’s story is also a reminder that thousands of South Africans still face daily mobility challenges, often without the support, dignity, and independence they deserve.

That is why The Sweethearts Foundation exists.

Together with Aquazania and our Wheelchair Manufacturing Partners, Shonaquip Social Enterprise, we are now working to ensure Sidney receives a fully customised electric wheelchair tailored specifically to his needs through a full professional assessment process.

Because mobility changes lives.
And every South African deserves the freedom to move. ❤️

The Sweethearts Foundation is proud to officially announce the appointment of Ashley Nel as Chief Executive Officer.

This appointment marks an important new chapter for the Foundation as we continue to strengthen our national footprint, expand community engagement, and increase the impact of our recycling and mobility initiatives across South Africa.

Ashley steps into this role with a strong commitment to collaboration, sustainability, operational growth, and community-driven change, while continuing to build on the Foundation’s mission to restore dignity and mobility for wheelchair beneficiaries nationwide.
