A massive WELL DONE to everyone who completed the parkrun! You absolutely smashed it and did 1st Edenvale proud! Seeing all of you out there helping paint the parkrun purple was an awesome sight! 💜🔥

Your determination, teamwork, and Scout spirit were on full display from start to finish. Every step you took showed what Scouts are all about—challenging yourselves, supporting one another, and never giving up!

Be proud of what you’ve achieved. You’re all absolute rockstars! Until the next adventure… keep that Scout spirit alive! ⚜️💪

The Camp That Started the Scout Movement

Did you know that the first experimental Scout camp was held on Brownsea Island, England, from 1–8 August 1907?

The camp was organized by Lord Robert Baden-Powell, who brought together 20 boys from different social backgrounds to test his ideas on leadership, teamwork, outdoor skills, discipline, and character development.

The camp was such a success that Baden-Powell went on to write Scouting for Boys in 1908. The book inspired thousands of young people and led to the birth of the worldwide Scout Movement.

Today, Scouting has grown into one of the largest youth movements in the world, helping millions of young people become responsible citizens and future leaders.

Everything began with just one camp—and today, the movement continues to change lives across the globe. ⚜️🌍

When Nelson Mandela became Patron of SCOUTS South Africa, he recognised something that continues to shape our Movement today: the power of Scouting to develop young people of character who lead with courage, integrity and a spirit of service. 💜⚜

This Mandela Month, SCOUTS SA members across South Africa have honoured Madiba's legacy not only through words, but through action. From packing Jars of Hope and caring for the environment to supporting vulnerable communities and serving where they are needed most, thousands of young people and volunteers have demonstrated that service is more than one good action—it's a way of life filled with many “good turns”.🌍🇿🇦⚜

As we reflect on Madiba's connection to Scouting and why he recognised the transformative role of the Scout Movement, we also recognise why his words remain relevant today.

On Saturday 1 August, Scouts across South Africa will come together to celebrate World Scout Scarf Day by painting local parkruns purple. 💜⚜

🏃🏿‍♀️ Whether you walk, jog, run, volunteer or simply cheer others on, everyone is invited. Participation is completely FREE.

Ask your Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts, Rovers, Volunteers and parents to join in on the fun! Wear your purple SCOUTS SA T-shirt (or another purple outfit) and proudly wear your Scout scarf. ⚜🫟💜

Our Cubs had an unforgettable adventure at the Pieter Toerien Theatre where they went to watch The Jungle Book! 🐾🌿

From the moment the curtain opened, our Cubs were transported into Mowgli’s jungle world — full of friendship, courage, and teamwork. They loved meeting characters like Baloo and Bagheera and learning important lessons about belonging and doing your best.

It was a fantastic outing filled with laughter, excitement, and plenty of jungle spirit! Experiences like this help our Cubs grow in confidence, imagination, and friendship — all while having loads of fun together.

Well done, Cubs! 🐺💛

Today 1st Edenvale proudly celebrates BP Sunday as we honour the life and legacy of Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement.

Born on 22 February 1857, BP’s vision continues to inspire millions of young people around the world to be prepared, serve others, and live by the Scout Law.

As part of the global family of World Organization of the Scout Movement, we reflect on our promise, our values, and the difference we can make in our community.

Happy BP Sunday to all our Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts, leaders, and families.
Let us continue to do our best, help other people at all times, and leave the world a little better than we found it.
