Since the official launch of our partnership with the City of Johannesburg and the JRA, and the Green Team's pothole repair training, a few residents have asked why the LRA hasn't started filling potholes yet.

It's a good question.

Although we have already filled several potholes on roads covered by the initial wayleaves approved when the initiative was launched, we are now required to apply for additional wayleaves for each new set of roads. A wayleave is the formal permission needed to work in the road reserve. It makes sure that work doesn't damage underground services.

This is part of the agreed process with the JRA, and we are working towards streamlining these approvals so that we can speed up the pothole repair programme across Greater Lonehill.

With the new hot-tar process, we're also limited to working on only a few roads at a time. This means repairs will be rolled out in phases rather than across the whole area at once.

Our current security operation includes:

📹 90+ security cameras monitored through the Lonehill Control Room.

👮 450+ Fidelity security officers deployed across Greater Lonehill, including residential complexes, road closures, shopping centres, schools and office parks.

🚓 A dedicated patrol fleet, including a quadbike, four 2x4 vehicles, five motorbikes and a community safety vehicle.

🚨 10 mobile security patrols, supported by reaction officers and duty managers.

📞 A fully staffed Lonehill Control Room, supported by dedicated Security Operations and Duty Managers, a Security Branch Manager and Security Administrator.

🚁 A developing drone security initiative, aimed at adding another layer of aerial surveillance and perimeter monitoring.

Together, this operation supports more than 90 sites across Greater Lonehill, backed by dedicated response, supervisory and management teams.

GREEN TEAM IN ACTION!

The LRA Green Team is hard at work replacing the damaged vertical gum poles along Lonehill Boulevard in Lonehill East, following a vehicle incident over the weekend.

For now, only the vertical poles will be replaced to prevent vehicles from parking in this area while we work on the longer-term repairs.

A little maintenance goes a long way towards keeping our community looking neat, safe and cared for.

❗️Don’t Talk To Strangers❗️

There have been reports of groups of individuals operating in the Northern Suburbs, including Greater Lonehill, who are approaching unsuspecting adults, the elderly, teenagers and domestic workers with various stories to gain their trust.

They approach their victims on the streets, in taxis, shops and malls, garages, public spaces and gatherings.

The approaches reportedly include:

• Offering money in exchange for assistance with foreign currency
• Asking for directions
• Claiming they need to use your phone because they have no airtime
• Offering cash for your phone, using fake banknotes
• Offering money for assistance with a seemingly innocent request

Please be aware:

• Do not engage with strangers who approach you with unusual requests.
• Do not hand your phone to a stranger.
• Do not hand your bank card to anyone.
• Do not accept assistance from strangers at an ATM.
• Do not accept offers of cash in exchange for your phone or other valuables.

Parents, please remind your children and teenagers, elderly family members and domestic staff to be cautious when approached by strangers, particularly when someone attempts to lure them into an unfamiliar situation or away from a safe environment. You do not need to be aggressive; simply say no, move away, seek assistance from security, and;

PLEASE REPORT THE INCIDENT to the Lonehill Control Room on (011) 467 2868, so it can be documented and reported to SAPS.

A new partnership between the City of Johannesburg and the Lonehill Residents Association aims to close service-delivery gaps by giving residents a greater role in addressing local infrastructure challenges.
