A company or pilot operating commercially without the required approvals may face:

A fine of up to R50,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 10 years, depending on the offence under the Civil Aviation Act and applicable regulations,
*Suspension or prohibition of operations by SACAA.
*Criminal prosecution.
*Civil liability if the drone causes injury, death, or property damage.

Most drone incidents don't happen because of equipment failure—they happen because pilots don't know the rules.
Before every flight, a responsible drone pilot should:

✅ Verify the airspace
✅ Inspect the drone
✅ Ensure batteries are fully charged
✅ Keep the drone within visual line of sight (unless specifically authorised)
✅ Never fly above 120 m (400 ft)
✅ Respect people's privacy and avoid flying over crowds
