Tomorrow morning, around 20 000 people will head out on an 86km journey on foot from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, taking part in the world's greatest ultramarathon: the ComradesMarathon

Although conquering, or even attempting, the Comrades Marathon is an incredible feat, as BirdLife South Africa, we have to make it about the birds - so whether you're running or spectating tomorrow, spare a thought for the remarkable journeys being taken along South Africa's flyways!

We recently returned from our annual staff meeting, a wonderful opportunity for our team, usually scattered across South Africa, to reconnect and plan for the year!

We had constructive strategy meetings, a mini lecture series, roundtable discussions, but the highlight must have been birding together in beautiful Bonamanzi!
