CIPS is a youth-led society
that seeks to create a generation of conscious high school volunteers
who carry out innovate projects aimed to help children in need (facing
poverty) across Southern Africa. CIPS brings together students aged
between 14 - 19 years with a shared desire to address communities'
needs. CIPS provides mentorship, on-going support and guidance to its
members to turn their desi
re to make a social impact in communities a
reality. CIPS is founded on the belief that the youth of today have an
unprecedented opportunity to bring positive change on a social scale. Be it to fundraise for a cause such as cancer, or to organize
donations for the needy, CIPS incubates the students to guide them
along their paths of making our communities a better place. Our very first project was called "Fill-the-case" where we held a
fundraiser at a private school , Cambridge Academy, in South Africa. We challenged the students to fill up pencil cases with as much
stationery as possible in a fun and interactive manner. From this
project we managed to raise 210 pencil cases which we gave to
desperate 6th and 7th Grade students in a rural school in Zimbabwe.
210 students who never knew how it felt to own a case-full of
stationery were very motivated and boosted in their study. The concept about CIPS emerged when a former classmate and I realized
we have a passion for raising donations such as clothes and food for
opharnages. I then did a survey in surrounding schools and it surfaced
that in nearly every school there are students who desire to be
involved in social projects but never do so because there are no
Structures in place that encourage that.We began to question
ourselves one question - how can we create a sustainable system that
will always engage willing students in community service? I, together
with a friend decided to form a society that is a solution.
