Thusanani Children's Foundation

Thusanani Children's Foundation The Thusanani Children’s Foundation is a NPO & PBO - we support the health and development of vulnerable children living in the childrens homes of Gauteng.

NPO Number: NPO-047-028
PBO Number: 930018108 The foundation was founded in 2002 in order to contribute towards improving the lives and futures of orphaned and vulnerable children. Our mission is to provide a dedicated therapeutic service to promote optimal development of children aged 0-6 years, who are orphaned & vulnerable. Our vision is to enhance futures by creating stimulating environments f

or every child who is orphaned and vulnerable in South Africa. Thusanani does this through:
- Direct therapeutic intervention with the children in the homes
- Provision of a developmental and medical clinic
- Care-giver training in the homes and training for care workers from the communities
- Organization and facilitation of monthly outings for these children.
- Collection and distribution of donated educational toys. Children who are functioning age appropriately will have a stronger start in life and will cope better with school, thereby impacting positively on their future. Promoting normal development has been shown to increase a child's chances of being adopted. A delayed baby may appear "sick" and therefore may not be considered for adoption. Thusanani is the only multi-disciplinary NPO in South Africa providing therapeutic medical services & training for optimal development of children who are orphaned and vulnerable. DONATIONS
Bank: Nedbank
Name of Account: The Thusanani Childrens Foundation
Branch: Melrose Arch
Branch code: 196-605
Account number: 1966 466226
SWIFT address: NEDSZAJJ (for deposits from offshore donors)

How will your donations be used? Our staff compliment is made up of professionals and thus salaries for occupational therapists and other multidisciplinary professionals such as a speech and language therapist or a physiotherapist is our priority. The clinical roles include provision of training courses, provision of the adoption assessments and therapy, hands on therapy and on site training in the homes to caregivers as well as managing the volunteers that work with Thusanani. Other roles carried out by the team include management and administration, fundraising, strategic planning, clinical supervision, collection and distribution of donated clothing and educational toys. The more funding we secure, the more professionals and support staff we can employ. Ideally we would like to expand our service to other provinces around South Africa and in turn expand the number of children whose lives can be changed.

Another year of being nominated for the Allied Steelrode, On A Mission, Charity Mile.

With this Charity Mile the beauty of horse racing comes down to the luck of draw. Today we drew a horse called Commodore.

Thank you to the founders, funders and all who makes this event possible.

We are super excited for the race happening 1 November!

2024 - our year at a glance

This year, we have made a monitored difference in the developmental trajectory of 574 children and their care-workers!
Thank you to our beneficiaries - Angels Baby Sanctuary, Abraham Kriel Bambanani (Maria Kloppers), Joburg Child Welfare (Othandweni Children's Home), Princess Alice Adoption Home, Hotel Hope Ministries and Thabisa Baby House for your commitment to therapy sessions and training.

Thank you to the 1st year Wits - University of the Witwatersrand medical students for taking the time to learn about the work our organisation does as well being hands-on at our 2024 zoo outing at The Johannesburg Zoo

This year we also galloped into 1st place at the Allied Steelrode Charity Mile!
Thank you to Allied Steelrode and 4Racing for nominating our non-profit organisation to be a part of this special event.

Caregivers work tirelessly throughout the year to care for children in CYCCs and places of safety. Thank you MatsiMela Home Spa for your end of year gift contribution and for spreading the holiday cheer.

We are grateful for all the support we have received throughout the year.

We hope that our partnerships will continue to sustain the most heart-warming and literally life changing observations that we are fortunate enough to witness.

Please note: our offices are closed for the festive holiday. We will reopen on the 7th of January.
See you in 2025

Charity Mile 2024

Our journey with Allied Steelrode and 4Racing started in 2022.

During the past 3 years, our knowledge on horse racing has grown from race to race, but not only that. Having been chosen as a non-profit organisation to take part in the charity mile has created the opportunity for us to have an even greater impact on the lives of vulnerable children in CYCCs and places of safety, as well as their dedicated caregivers.

"A horse gallops with his lungs, perseveres with his heart and wins with his character"
From the Thusanani Team, a big thank you to Allied Steelrode, 4Racing and Wi******er Mansion's (our horse) trainer and jockey.
Our organisation can gallop towards giving little lives a lot, with a team that has heart and true character for the work we do.

🤩A glimpse into play in our LevelUp 2 play group.
Caregivers learn about making and playing simple problem solving activities for toddlers.

Did you know? 🤔
Problem-solving skills are important for toddlers because they help children develop critical thinking, confidence, and independence:

🤯Cognitive development
Problem-solving helps children make connections, process information, and develop new strategies.

🤓Critical thinking
Problem-solving encourages children to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information.

😊Confidence
Children who can solve problems are more likely to be confident and believe in themselves.

😉Independence
Problem-solving helps children make decisions for themselves and become more independent.

😜Social skills
Problem-solving helps children learn to resolve conflicts and compromise with others.

🫢Communication
Problem-solving helps children learn to communicate about problems with others.
