Community Hours Volunteering made fun and engaging. "Be the change"

Collaborating with teenagers, families & other active citizens Volunteer opportunities & community service hours
Building Volunteering CV's school & University applications. Community Hours is given the best opportunities to become inspired by volunteerism, while working in a safe and secure online environment. Community Hours finds volunteering opportunities that will interest you based on your

interests, skills and area preference. Our system enables users to log their community service hours online while the organisations verify the hours logged. A digital history of your community service hours is created and are made available for print in the form of digital certificates for reporting purposes. We make volunteering easier for volunteers, parents, and organisations as well as shows how fun volunteering actually is. Community, Creativity & Kindness — Knit at the Movies! What a wonderful celebration of World Granny Square Day!
On Saturday, Community Hours brought together a community of knitters, crocheters, movie-lovers and kind-hearted people for our Knit at the Movies event at Cedar Square Shopping Centre Ster-Kinekor Theatres — and what a day it was!
The event was an absolute triumph — we filled the entire 123-seater venue, and at the same time created a wonderful atmosphere of laughter, friendship, creativity and, of course, plenty of wool!
While watching the much-loved Notting Hill, everyone created beautiful Granny Squares, laughed and, some even sang along, while enjoying the simple pleasure of doing something together for a good cause.
It was a treat to partner in kindness with 67 Blankets and such special way to celebrate the impact that time given, creativity shared and a little more warmth being added to the world.
A huge thank you to the wonderful sponsors who helped make the day extra special:
WOOLWORTHS for the beautiful flowers
Carmella by Sir Gaspard for the delicious coffee and tea after the show
for the fabulous gift vouchers
Pro CD Exports for the gorgeous wine
Kismet Wool for the amazing hamper

And a very special Community Hours thank you to Lisa Manser, for partnering with us and bringing her wonderful flair, creativity and energy to the event. Events like this remind us of what we love about volunteering at Community Hours — it doesn't have to be complicated to make a difference. Sometimes it starts with a ball of wool, a crochet hook, a few Granny Squares and a room full of people willing to give their time.
We look forward to seeing you at the next movie!
And that is what Community Hours is all about. Intergenerational volunteering is something we are committed to.

Leaving a Legacy

“The true measure of a life is not what we accumulate, but what we leave behind in others.”

Moving beyond Mandela Month, we reflect on what truly matters.
Not what we have—but who we’ve lifted, supported, and inspired.

Make your impact count.

At Community Hours, we see the care and commitment behind what you do — in the way you show up, give your time, and lead others through your actions. Your impact is not always loud, but it is lasting, and it matters more than words can express.

Happy Women’s Day.

The Power of Giving Time

“When we give our time, we don’t lose it—we multiply it in the lives of others.”

Time is one of the most valuable things we have. And when we give it with intention, it creates ripples far beyond what we can see.

Your time matters. Use it to make a difference.

Today, 50 incredible young volunteers from Steyn City School spent the day at Siyakhana Organic Food Garden— as part of their commitment to community impact, and what an inspiring experience it was.

Guided by the passionate Thabang and Peter from Siyakhana, the students rolled up their sleeves and got fully involved, bringing energy, teamwork, and a genuine willingness to make a difference. Their contribution meant so much to the small, dedicated team behind this remarkable space.

Situated in the heart of Johannesburg, Siyakhana Organic Food Garden is more than an urban farm—it’s a hub of sustainability, education, and community upliftment, providing fresh produce and hope to many.

We are so proud of our young people for the way they showed up today—with kindness, commitment, and purpose.

This is what active citizenship looks like

Crochet, Knit… and enjoy a Little Movie Magic!

We are very excited to invite you to our second Crochet & Knit at the Movies — and this time, it’s extra special!

In collaboration with 67 Blankets, we’re bringing together a community of crafters for kindness for an afternoon that promises connection, creativity, and a touch of cinematic charm

Join us on World Granny Square Day - we would love to spend the afternoon with you!
Date: Saturday, 15 August
Where: Cedar Square Shopping Centre
Time: 15h00
Ticket Price: R50 per person
And most importantly .... the Movie: Notting Hill

“I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy…” — and we’re "just" a community, coming together to create something beautiful, one stitch at a time.

Whether you're a seasoned knitter, a crochet enthusiast, or simply someone who loves the idea of crafting with purpose, this is your invitation to be part of something truly special. Bring your friends, your family, your yarn — and your heart.

If you don't have any yarn, no problem! A pop-up wool shop by Kismet (official wool partner to 67 Blankets) will be there to keep your creativity flowing!

This is more than just a movie afternoon — it’s a chance to share your talent, connect with others, and wrap kindness into every stitch.

Come for the movie… stay for the magic we will create together.

From Empathy to Action

“Volunteering is where empathy becomes action—and action becomes impact.”

We all feel. We all care.
But it’s what we do with that feeling that shapes the world around us.
Turn compassion into action this week.

As we reflect on Mandela Week, we find ourselves thinking of the moments that reminded us what true community impact looks like.

From the energy and teamwork of to the meaningful conversations shared during the Holy Rosary School Sleepout, to the incredible generosity shown at the Cedar Square Shopping Centre Pop-Up Donation Centre — each experience carried its own unique heartbeat of kindness.

Different spaces. Different people. One shared purpose.

What connects these moments is more than just participation — it is a collective commitment to showing up, to caring, and to taking action in ways both big and small. This is how Madiba’s legacy lives on — not in a single day, but in the choices we make every day.

At Community Hours, we are deeply grateful for every partner, every volunteer, every student, and every act of kindness that contributed to this week. You are part of something bigger — a growing culture of active citizenship and meaningful impact.

Let’s carry this forward.

Because community impact doesn’t end with Mandela Week — it begins with us. This is how we build a culture of community impact — one conversation, one connection, one experience at a time.💛

So glad that the impact of this day was felt by the children in Hillbrow and Yeoville. Thank you for partnering with us to distribute the delicious sandwiches X

What an incredible difference a simple sandwich can make! 💙

A heartfelt thank you to Community Hours and Blue Label for your amazing contribution this Mandela Day.

Your generous donation of hundreds and hundreds of peanut butter sandwiches helped ensure that children in Yoville and the surrounding areas had a meal to enjoy and a reason to smile. Your kindness and generosity reached far beyond the sandwiches themselves—it reminded every child that their community cares.

We are incredibly thankful to have organisations like yours standing alongside us to create meaningful change. Your support played an important role in making this Mandela Day one to remember.

Here’s to continuing to work together, serving our community, and changing lives—one sandwich, one smile, and one act of kindness at a time. ❤️
