Community, Creativity & Kindness — Knit at the Movies! What a wonderful celebration of World Granny Square Day!
On Saturday, Community Hours brought together a community of knitters, crocheters, movie-lovers and kind-hearted people for our Knit at the Movies event at Cedar Square Shopping Centre Ster-Kinekor Theatres — and what a day it was!
The event was an absolute triumph — we filled the entire 123-seater venue, and at the same time created a wonderful atmosphere of laughter, friendship, creativity and, of course, plenty of wool!
While watching the much-loved Notting Hill, everyone created beautiful Granny Squares, laughed and, some even sang along, while enjoying the simple pleasure of doing something together for a good cause.
It was a treat to partner in kindness with 67 Blankets and such special way to celebrate the impact that time given, creativity shared and a little more warmth being added to the world.
A huge thank you to the wonderful sponsors who helped make the day extra special:
WOOLWORTHS for the beautiful flowers
Carmella by Sir Gaspard for the delicious coffee and tea after the show
for the fabulous gift vouchers
Pro CD Exports for the gorgeous wine
Kismet Wool for the amazing hamper
And a very special Community Hours thank you to Lisa Manser, for partnering with us and bringing her wonderful flair, creativity and energy to the event. Events like this remind us of what we love about volunteering at Community Hours — it doesn't have to be complicated to make a difference. Sometimes it starts with a ball of wool, a crochet hook, a few Granny Squares and a room full of people willing to give their time.
We look forward to seeing you at the next movie!
And that is what Community Hours is all about. Intergenerational volunteering is something we are committed to.
