I hate to break it to you but a meal plan is only a tool, it’s not the solution. And it’s certainly not the reason I do what I do.

At 16, I saw a dietitian calculate tube feeding for an 8 year old that was airlifted to a trauma hospital after being mauled by a lion, and watching how nutrition made a difference to a burns patient’s survival. By 3rd year I’d thought I’d end up in hospitals, but final year changed it for me.

It seems obvious that someone that loves sport would choose Sports Nutrition as a specialization but it was through life’s twists that I noticed a gap, started creating opportunities, and doing my part to see people thriving.

You would assume elite athletes have nutrition sorted. The reality is, it’s often overlooked or not applied in a way that actually supports performance. And that’s where the work really is.

I don’t just educate, I using various tools to equip you beyond a meal plan. There’s barriers we work through, behaviours we change, impacts we make. It’s never just about the number on the scale, it’s more than that.

This week (dietitians week) is a reminder that nutrition matters more than you realize, even for those who pitch up on race day/game day/tournaments/event day.

I am fashionably late 🤭

Before Dietitians Week ends, here’s a reminder that dietitians do far more than tell people what to eat. 💚

We teach, research, lead, innovate, support recovery from exercise and improve sports performance.

We shape food systems. We influence policy.
One profession. Countless opportunities to make an impact.

Proud to be part of a field that continues to grow, evolve, and change lives through nutrition.

A quick reflection as a dietitian…

When I chose this profession, I knew I wanted to help people improve their health through nutrition but what I didn’t realise was how much of my work would involve defending food itself.

Almost daily, I find myself explaining that bread is not the enemy, potatoes are not ‘bad’, eating sugar doesn’t automatically mean you’ve failed and that health cannot be reduced to a single ingredient, nutrient, or number on a scale. As a passionate dietitian, a significant part of my job is helping people unlearn nutrition myths, challenge food fears, and rebuild trust in eating.

Because nutrition is a science and not just an opinion!

I’m grateful for every individual who has trusted NutriSmart with their health, every patient who has allowed us to be part of their journey, and every organisation that recognises that nutrition is about more than simply handing out diet sheets.

This Dietitian Week, I’m proud to be part of a profession that continues to advocate for evidence-based nutrition, while never forgetting that food is meant to nourish, connect, and be enjoyed.

Happy Dietitian Week to my fellow dietitians.

The final day of Dietitians Week 2026🥳

Today we want to “Show our people!”👏🏼

We, as dietitians, always pour our heart and our soul into our profession. Dietetics is more than a job as sometimes we have to listen, we encourage and motivate, we sympathize and most of all, we always care!💚

As a team of dynamic different personalities, we would like to acknowledge that we are humans, and we also have fun, travel, do trial runs, expect babies or have children, have alone time, have pets, spend time with family and loved ones and we just want to say THANK YOU to our amazing team of superheroes!🙏🏼😬

Not only do we excel at being dietitians, but also at being partners, friends, family members etc🤗

Happy Dietitians Week to all the “Not your normal Dietitian” Dietitians! We appreciate you!🥹💚

✨ Dietitians Week – Day 5: Our People! ✨

As Dietitians Week 2026 comes to a close, we celebrate not only what dietitians do, but who we are! Dedicated professionals committed to improving lives through nutrition, compassion, and evidence-based care. 🍋🥦🫜🍓

Today, we asked our ADSA Committee:
💬 “How would you describe yourself in three words?”

Their answers offer a glimpse into the people behind the profession. The qualities that guide their work, inspire those around them, and contribute to the impact dietitians make every day! 🤩

Thank you for joining us in celebrating our vocation, our work, our achievements, our impact, and most importantly, our people! 🩷💚🧡

✨ Meet the team! ✨

Today’s Dietitian Week theme is Our People – and we’re putting the spotlight on the incredible individuals behind the care we provide.

Meet Crystal, one of our dietitians, who is passionate about helping adolescents and adults navigate their nutrition journey with confidence and compassion.

From favourite snacks to favourite parts of the job, we’re sharing a little more about the people who make our practice what it is. 💚

Because behind every nutrition plan, every consultation, and every success story is a dedicated professional who genuinely cares.

Tell us in the comments: what’s your favourite snack? 👇

Happy National Dietitians Week! 🍏 💚
_
Registered Dietitians wear a lot of hats. You’ll find us in community settings like clinics, schools, NGOs, corporate wellness - in hospitals, both public and private. We’re in lecture halls supervising Masters and PhD students, and even behind the scenes in food service management, like restaurants, and catering companies & much more!!
_
But no matter where we work, our heart is the same: Advocating for nutrition at every 👏🏾 stage 👏🏾 of life 👏🏾
_
Nutrition isn’t just “eat your veggies.” It’s what helps a critically ill patient fight malnutrition and recover faster. It’s what helps a healthy person stay well for the long run. It’s the 1y 8mo old refusing every spoon, and the cirrhotic patient whose bloods look “normal” but whose body still needs help.
_
Our job is more than meal plans. On any given day we assess body measurements, translate complex blood results into plain english, assess clinical signs an symptoms, take a deep dive into diet history, calculate exact nutrition prescriptions an decide if nutrition should come by mouth, a feeding tube, or even IV
_
And we don’t guess. Everything we do is grounded in research and evidence. That’s why, when the latest TikTok trend pops up, or you’re unsure if glutamine is safe for your liver, a dietitian is the one to ask.
_
So if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by nutrition noise — reach out. We’ve got you.
_
To my fellow RDs: Thank you. For the ward rounds, the calculating, the journal articles, the “please, just one more sip” negotiations. You show up every day and change lives. Let’s keep pushing.
_
P.S. Yes, I’m posting on the last day of the week 😅 It’s been that kind of academic week — just another day in the life of a dietitian. At this rate, we deserve a whole Dietitians Month!
