Father A Nation

Father A Nation Raising good men™️ and fathers since 2010. Positive masculinity uses its strength to love, honour, protect & stand against abuse.

Together we can end gender-based violence, fatherlessness & violent crime in South Africa. 🇿🇦 In a country with a high rate of fatherlessness, Father A Nation mentors and equips boys and men to be great nation-builders, role models and fathers. Healthy masculinity uses its strength to love, serve and protect. Father A Nation runs programmes aimed at restoring and mobilising men to be a force for g

We celebrate the women of South Africa! Your voice matters, your dreams matter and your contribution is invaluable!

At Father A Nation, we believe men and women were made to stand alongside one another as equally valuable co-creators of the future. We will keep raising boys and equipping men to stand against abuse and build a nation in which women and girls live with safety, dignity and freedom to be everything they were made to be.

Our actions speak louder than our words!

Happy Women’s Day, South Africa. 🇿🇦

Freedom is living without fear. This National Women’s Day, women from Alexandra share what changed after FAN’s Champions for Change programme began working with men in their community: more communication and support, less conflict, and a greater sense of safety and freedom at home.

FAN works with men and boys to prevent gender-based violence and restore healthy masculinity - because honouring women must mean more than words.

The impact is felt at home - and backed by evidence. After our interventions, 97% of men recognised that taking action against GBV is every man’s responsibility.*

To every woman: we stand with you, today and every day, as we continue to fight for your dignity, safety and freedom.

Happy Women’s Day. ♥️

Nelson Mandela handed us more than freedom.
He handed us responsibility.

To build strong families.
To build safe communities.
To build a nation where every child is protected, every woman is respected, and every person is treated with dignity.

That’s what it means to father a nation.

This Mandela Day, let’s continue building the nation Madiba dreamed of.

As Men’s Mental Health Month draws to a close, let’s remember that this conversation doesn’t end on 30 June.

South Africa is facing a men’s mental health crisis. Men are four times more likely to take their own lives than women, yet many continue to suffer in silence rather than reach out for help. (SA Federation for Mental Health)

Research also points to the wider impact of poor men’s mental health. When emotional pain goes unaddressed, it can contribute to depression, anxiety, substance abuse and broken relationships, and has also been linked to higher rates of gender-based violence (GBV)(HSRC South African National GBV Study, 2024)

Damaging ideas about masculinity also contribute to the problem, such as the belief that “big boys don’t cry” - that men must always be strong, keep it together, suppress their emotions and suffer in silence. This doesn’t just harm men; it impacts their families, communities and ultimately our nation.

No man is meant to walk through life alone.

Build a Band of Brothers.
Find men who will know you, encourage you and stand with you. And be that brother to them.

That’s not weakness.
That’s strength.

That’s healthy masculinity.

When men step up, communities grow stronger.

The Gauteng Champions for Change Camp recently brought together an incredible group of men in the Magaliesberg.

Over an unforgettable weekend filled with bonding, laughter and tears, they were challenged, inspired, and equipped to become FAN Mentors and influential positive role models in their communities.

They returned home ready to grow the movement, equip other men to live with positive masculinity and build safer, stronger communities. ✊
