Today, the Engel Foundation had the privilege of visiting Westbury Primary School to distribute sanitary pads and panty liners to learners in need. 💜💜💜This outreach forms part of our commitment to dignity, health, and empowerment for young girls, ensuring no learner has to miss school because of period poverty. The smiles, gratitude, and relief we witnessed today remind us why this work matters. ✨A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated volunteers who showed up with compassion and energy, and to every donor who contributed towards these dignity packs. Yesterday, the ENGEL Foundation had the honour of visiting the Pensioners' Village in Coronationville and the Old Age Home in Claremont. 💙

We spent the afternoon sharing moments of joy, conversation, and connection with the residents. Each pensioner received a fresh sandwich and a muffin, and the ladies were overjoyed with the clothing items gifted to them. Sometimes, the smallest gestures make the biggest difference. ✨

🌱 Honored to Learn, Grow & Lead!

The Engel Foundation is proud to be part of the NYDA NYS Incubator Programme, and we’re thrilled to join the National Youth Service (NYS) Learning Forum, officially underway in Boksburg!

Today, youth-led organisations and stakeholders from across South Africa have come together under one roof to learn, unlearn, and relearn critical aspects of compliance, governance, and accountability in the non-profit and youth development sectors.

This year’s theme, “Empowering Grassroots Movements for a Sustainable Future,” deeply resonates with our mission — empowering communities through composting, plastic upcycling, and circular economy initiatives that create real impact.

Day 1 has been filled with powerful insights, learning opportunities, and inspiring connections that will strengthen our organisational capacity and amplify our service to communities.

We’re proud to be part of this movement — building sustainability from the ground up. 🌍💪🏽

🥣✨ Food Drive Recap – Riverlea | 27 July 2025 ✨🥣

Yesterday, we had the honour of serving warm, hearty soup and bread to over 300 community members at Jukskei Park in Riverlea. ❤️🙏

A heartfelt thank you to every volunteer, donor, and supporter who made this possible — your generosity fuels our mission to bring hope and dignity to our communities. Special thanks to Cllr Theo Doyle for showing up, lending words of encouragement, and standing in solidarity with our work. 🧡

🙌 To our generous donors – big and small – who contributed towards ingredients, bread, and other essentials, thank you! Your kindness made all the difference. And to the volunteers who rolled up their sleeves – you are the heartbeat of the Engel Foundation. 💪

🍞 south africa – We were grateful to purchase your R5.00 loaves of bread from Shoprite, Newlands and Shoprite Sophiatown for this food drive. However, we encountered major challenges with the 2-per-customer policy, despite clearly explaining we are a registered NPO purchasing in bulk for a community feeding initiative. After much back and forth, our volunteers had to approach in-store customers to assist by scanning loaves — a time-consuming and tedious process.

🙏 To those incredible Shoprite customers who helped us navigate this – THANK YOU for your kindness!

📣 We urge Shoprite South Africa to review their bulk buying policy for registered NPOs like ours, who rely on purchasing large quantities to feed hundreds of people regularly. A flexible and supportive system for nonprofits would allow us to continue serving communities more effectively. 💬

🌟 What an Incredible Day at Play It Forward! 🏑💫

We are overflowing with gratitude as we reflect on the success of our first official Play It Forward Hockey Clinic which took place this past weekend — a collaboration between the ENGEL Foundation and our amazing partners, Argentinos Hockey Club. 💙

🌱 Over 90 young participants from Newclare and surrounding communities got to experience the joy of sport, teamwork, and empowerment in a safe, inclusive space. This is the kind of impact we strive for!

⚡ Tomorrow, 19 July – we launch our Play It Forward Hockey Clinic 🏑 in Newclare, bringing sport, mentorship, and healthy meals to local youth in collaboration with Argentinos Hockey Club.

🍲 And on Sunday, 27 July, we host our Monthly Food Drive in Riverlea where we’ll be serving hearty soup to over 600 people in need.
