World Environment Day 2025 - Putting an End to Plastic Pollution

Did you know?
Ink cartridges are made from ABS plastic – a tough, non-biodegradable material. At one of our Green Hubs in Diepsloot, we recycle these bulky cartridges to fight plastic pollution and support the circular economy.

We know that recycling can be a hassle. But throwing plastic away is costing us more in the long run.

If your company uses ink cartridges — let us take them off your hands. Simple. Local. Impactful….and it generates income for unemployed youth, women and people with disabilities!

While climate change, pollution and deforestation threaten the world, the burden falls heaviest on communities already facing poverty and inequality. But here’s the truth: we don’t need to choose between people and planet – we can act for both.

At The Wot-If? Trust, we believe that environmental action must go hand in hand with job creation, community awareness, and inclusive participation. From waste management to circular economy innovation, township communities like Diepsloot are showing what’s possible when solutions are local, practical and people-powered.

The time to act isn’t tomorrow. It’s now. Because when we empower communities to care for the Earth, we build livelihoods, dignity and hope – one action at a time.

Let’s honour not just with words, but with action.

*Human Rights Day: A Reminder of the Unfinished Work*

March 21st marks Human Rights Day in South Africa - a day to remember the sacrifices made for freedom and equality. Sadly, for millions, poverty continues to erode human rights every day.

Human rights are about dignity, access and choice. In a world where the internet connects people to opportunities, too many are left behind because data is too expensive, and connectivity is a privilege, not a right.

Real freedom means more than just political rights—it means the ability to learn, grow and make informed choices. Until everyone has access to the digital world, poverty will continue to be a barrier to dignity and justice.

is not just about the environment—it’s about people, jobs and dignity.

On this Global Recycling Day, we honor the waste collectors who work tirelessly to ensure that recycling happens in South Africa. They are the invisible backbone of our circular economy, collecting, sorting and selling recyclables, often under tough conditions, to keep our environment clean and our economy moving.

But what happens when we don’t recycle? Our planet suffers, landfills overflow, pollution rises, and climate change worsens. Fragile communities like Diepsloot suffer too. Waste mismanagement fuels health crises, joblessness and economic instability.

Within this challenge lies an opportunity. Recycling is not just a green initiative; it’s an economic engine. By harnessing the value of waste, we can create jobs, build businesses and empower communities. The waste sector has the potential to drive employment, entrepreneurship and sustainability, but only if we recognise waste not as a problem, but as a resource.

Let’s celebrate those who make recycling happen. Let’s support waste collectors. Let’s rethink waste.

The world feels upside down right now. Empathy is fading. Inequality is rising. And yet, women—despite bearing the brunt of it all keep going, keep hoping, keep rebuilding.

Today, we honour their resilience, their courage and their unwavering belief in a better tomorrow.

When women rise, the world rises. Let’s stand with them, today and always.
