We are proud to spotlight Ngaha, a Cameroonian public health practitioner, AL for Health Network member, and Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the of Oxford.

Emeline’s journey is rooted in community and driven by equity. Growing up in a high‑density neighbourhood in Yaoundé, Cameroon, she witnessed firsthand how gaps in infrastructure shape health outcomes, an experience that inspired her lifelong commitment to advancing health equity across Africa and beyond.

In 2024, she founded Safe Space: The Care Shop, a youth mental health initiative improving access to psychosocial support for adolescents and young adults across five regions of Cameroon, including conflict‑affected areas with internally displaced students. Supported by the Foundation Social Entrepreneurship Fund (SEF), Safe Space is helping young people heal, build resilience, and thrive.

Alongside leading community‑based health and WASH initiatives, Emeline is currently pursuing an MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the of Oxford, where she continues to strengthen her capacity to design and scale impactful public health programmes.

At the AL for Health Network, we celebrate leaders like Emeline, those who combine lived experience, technical excellence, and compassion to create sustainable change.

✨ Join us in celebrating Emeline’s inspiring journey and commitment to healthier, more equitable futures.

In a world of shrinking donor funding, how do NGOs remain impactful and sustainable?

Join us for the AL for Health Network Speaker Series on April 16th, 16:00–17:00 SAST for a critical conversation on the future of development in Africa.
We’re honoured to host Michael Moyo, Executive Director of the Edward Ndlovu Memorial Trust (ENMT) in Zimbabwe, presenting on:
“Leading Through Uncertainty: Building Sustainable NGOs in a Changing Donor Landscape.”

About the speaker:
Michael Moyo is a development practitioner and PhD candidate at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. His work focuses on advancing literacy, strengthening library services, and promoting community-driven development across Matabeleland South. With a strong background in strategic management and resource mobilization, he has led impactful initiatives that expand access to education and empower vulnerable communities. His doctoral research explores how civil society organisations can engage with indigenous knowledge systems to enhance climate resilience in Gwanda District, guided by the Ubuntu framework. He is deeply passionate about the role of information as a catalyst for development and believes that access to knowledge is key to overcoming poverty and building sustainable communities.

This session will explore:
• How NGOs can adapt to shifting donor priorities
• Sustainable funding and resource mobilisation strategies
• The power of indigenous knowledge systems in development
• Leadership approaches for navigating uncertainty
• Building resilient, community-driven organisations
This is more than a discussion — it’s a chance to rethink and reshape Africa’s development ecosystem.

The FY26 AL for Health Co-Creation Fund applications are officially closed, and we’re now in the exciting phase of reviewing all the incredible ideas submitted!

While we do that, we’re taking a moment to celebrate one of last year’s standout innovators

Meet Team Primetel – our 1st place winners

Primetel is transforming access to healthcare in Tanzania through an innovative offline telehealth solution that works on both smartphones and feature phones using USSD technology. This means that over 70% of phone users—especially those in remote areas—can access essential primary and mental healthcare services without needing internet access.

Their impact goes beyond technology:

*Reduced the need for long-distance travel to healthcare facilities

*Delivered services in both English and Kiswahili, increasing accessibility

*Expanded reach across multiple regions including Monduli, Mto Wa Mbu, Sinoni Kati, and Karatu

*Trained community health workers to provide basic mental health support and education

*Strengthened digital literacy and built trust within communities

Through a blended model of telehealth and in-person support, Primetel is not only improving access to care but also reshaping how communities experience healthcare—making it more inclusive, accessible, and holistic.

This is what innovation with purpose looks like.

Join us tomorrow as we introduce the new co-creation cohort.

As we’ve officially closed the FY26 AL for Health Co-Creation Fund applications and begin the review process, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible innovation and impact from last year’s Co-Creation Fund cohort

Let’s look back at one of our standout teams — Team H2ENERGIES, Second place winners. Their groundbreaking solution, Hydro-Stove 1.0, is redefining clean cooking for rural households in Zimbabwe. By using just 1 litre of water and solar energy, the stove produces hydrogen fuel to power daily cooking for a family of four — all while remaining completely smoke-free and emission-free.

This innovation not only improves efficiency and reduces cooking time but also protects families from harmful pollutants, creating safer and healthier homes. It’s a powerful example of how locally driven solutions can tackle global challenges like clean energy access and climate change.

We are incredibly inspired by their vision, innovation, and impact

If this is what last year looked like, we can’t wait to see what this year’s cohort will bring. Stay tuned — the future of health innovation in Africa is just getting started.

The FY26 AL for Health Co-Creation Fund applications are officially closed, and we’re excitedly reviewing all the incredible submissions!

As we go through this next phase, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the impact of last year’s inspiring innovators

Meet Team KIRA, our 3rd place winners from the previous cohort. Their project tackled menstrual health challenges in displaced communities in Gatumba, Burundi—where many girls, due to extreme circumstances, lacked access to safe menstrual hygiene products.

Through their initiative, Team KIRA introduced a sustainable solution by distributing reusable sanitary pads and facilitating menstrual hygiene and reproductive health workshops.
The impact speaks for itself:
*120 girls reached (exceeding their initial target!)
*78% reported improved comfort and reduced irritation
*Increased confidence and reduced school absenteeism
*Local tailors trained to continue production and scale impact

Beyond the numbers, they sparked important conversations, challenged stigma, and empowered young girls to take control of their health and education.

This is what the Co-Creation Fund is all about—turning bold ideas into real, lasting impact.

Stay tuned as we uncover the next wave of changemakers for FY26!
