Budget Speech postponed to March 2025. We reject the increment of Value Added Tax of 2%. Since the democracy it has been increased from 14% to 15% during 2018, hence we reject it as it's been 6-7 years since the increment.

The markets have been impacted negatively, Euro and Pound increased by 12 cents and Dollar by 15 cents after the Budget speech cancelation.

Government Urges Public to Avoid Disrupting Spaza Shop Registrations

Government has appealed to the public to refrain from interfering with the registration process of spaza shops and other small businesses.

This follows concerns over isolated incidents, particularly in Soweto, where individuals have attempted to block certain shop owners from participating.

The registration process, a measure to address recent foodborne illness outbreaks and illicit trade, has begun nationwide.

Government has warned against unauthorized inspections and emphasized that only legitimate businesses meeting legal requirements will be allowed to register.

President Cyril Ramaphosa recently ordered the closure of spaza shops linked to the outbreak and mandated the registration of all shops and food handling facilities within 21 days. Government is conducting joint inspections across the country to enforce these regulations.
