FutureBuilders Initiative: Youth Leadership Day

On 25 September 2026, Mashup Community Development (Westbury Youth Centre), in partnership with the FutureBuilders Initiative and Together 4 Growth, hosted an inspiring Youth Leadership Day Workshop at the Westbury Youth Centre.

The day created a space for young people to connect, learn, reflect and explore what it means to lead — not only others, but themselves and their own futures.

We were privileged to hear from an incredible group of speakers who shared their experiences, insights and personal journeys:

👏 Anisha Mordaunt
👏 Samantha Jege
👏 Shaune Baaitjies
👏 Devaan Parbhoo
👏 Thelma Phasha

Thank you for giving your time, sharing your stories and encouraging our young people to believe in their own potential.

A special thank you to the young people from Westbury, Riverlea and surrounding communities who made the effort to attend on a Friday, just one day after a public holiday. Your commitment to learning, growing and investing in yourselves is truly inspiring. You showed that when opportunity comes your way, you are willing to show up and make the most of it.

The day was about more than leadership. It was about self-awareness, confidence, purpose, resilience and taking action.
We are grateful to FutureBuilders Initiative and Together 4 Growth for partnering with us to create spaces where young people can Learn. Lead. Grow. Belong. Create Change.

What an incredible day! 🎉

Our Financial Literacy Workshop was an overwhelming success! More than 60 young people arrived eager to learn, grow, and connect with one another. The energy in the room was contagious, thanks to our outstanding facilitators who delivered engaging, relevant, and practical content that our youth can apply in their everyday lives.

Beyond gaining valuable financial knowledge, participants built new friendships, expanded their networks, and left inspired to make informed decisions about their futures.

A sincere thank you to the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) for partnering with Mashup Community Development to empower the next generation. Together, we are equipping young people with the knowledge and confidence they need to build brighter futures. 💙💛

Look out for more empowerment workshops coming soon.

We recently celebrated the Mashup – Westbury Youth Centre student graduation, a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when commitment meets opportunity.

A heartfelt thank you to Colette Steeneveldt from "Just Connect Empowerment Services NPC' and family, Aunty Bree and Daryl, and all the dedicated facilitators and volunteers who gave their time, energy, and belief to walk this journey with our students. Your contribution continues to shape lives in ways that go far beyond the classroom.

Special appreciation to Picklers Park, Roodepoort for providing a welcoming space that made this celebration possible.

Most importantly, we honour our graduates—young people who, against real odds and real challenges, chose to stay the course, complete what they started, and push through when it would have been easier to quit. Your perseverance is the true achievement of the day. This is what resilience looks like.

Call to action: Recruitment is still open. New courses will be announced soon. If you’re ready to take the next step, come and complete a registration form and become part of the next intake.
