The impact of a book does not end with one student. It can benefit hundreds of learners over many years.

We are proud to have donated over 900 textbooks to the Northern Cape Rural TVET College (NCRTVET) Kuruman Campus, supporting both NC(V) and NATED programmes offered by the institution. The donation included textbooks for courses such as Safety in Society, Office Administration, Transport and Logistics, Public Administration, Business Management and Management Assistant, helping to ensure that students have access to the learning resources required to succeed academically.

Importantly, these books are not only intended to benefit the current cohort of students. As part of the College's academic resource collection, the textbooks will be reused by successive student groups over the coming years, extending the value and impact of the donation well beyond a single academic year.

Access to quality educational resources remains a critical component of student success. Through this partnership, KCDT continues to support opportunities for skills development and educational achievement within the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, helping to equip young people with the knowledge and qualifications needed to participate meaningfully in the economy.

We extend our appreciation to NCRTVET for their continued commitment to developing skilled graduates and look forward to seeing the impact these resources will have on learners for years to come.

MEET THE CREATIVE | PELONOMI ITUMELENG

Selected as one of 10 creatives from 102 applications for the Book Dash initiative, sponsored by Kgolo Community Development Trust, we are pleased to introduce you to one of the Northern Cape’s distinctive creative voices - Pelonomi Itumeleng

Hailing from Seven Miles (Kuruman) in the Northern Cape Pelonomi Itumeleng is an award-winning educator, creative and cultural practitioner whose work sits at the intersection of literature, education, creativity and cultural expression.
Itumeleng’s work is rooted in a belief in the power of literature, poetry and storytelling to educate, empower and preserve culture. An editor, writer, educator and entrepreneur, she has built a diverse creative practice spanning poetry development, literary curation, indigenous language advocacy, arts education and creative wellness.
Her literary work includes serving as a compiler and editor of the inaugural NAETSA Poetry Prize Anthology, while her editorial work extends to the NAETSA Mirror Newsletter and poetry editing and compilation for authors and cultural institutions. Through these platforms, she creates space for emerging voices and contributes to the development and visibility of South African literature.

Beyond literature, Itumeleng is also the founder of Burgundy Paradigms and Burgundy Collective, developing educational and creative experiences that bring together creativity, leadership, healing and innovation. Her work with initiatives such as ArtScape Creative Classes, leadership programmes and indigenous language advancement reflects her broader commitment to using creativity as a tool for individual and community development.
Her journey has also been recognised through opportunities including the BRICS+ Youth Innovation Summit, the SUSI and YALI programmes, and recognition as a national finalist in the Technology-Enhanced Teaching & Learning Award.

At the heart of Itumeleng’s work is a simple but powerful idea: that creativity can be more than expression - it can be a pathway to education, empowerment and cultural transformation.

MEET THE CREATIVE | MOGALE SEDIBE

Selected as one of 10 creatives from 102 applications for the Book Dash initiative, sponsored by Kgolo Community Development Trust, we are pleased to introduce you to one of the Northern Cape’s distinctive creative voices - Mogale Sedibe.

Mogale Sedibe is a poet, writer and cultural producer whose creative practice spans poetry, children’s literature, theatre and cultural production.
Hailing from Mataleng (Barkly West) in the Northern Cape, Sedibe’s work is rooted in questions of identity, heritage, spirituality and the human experience. His creative journey has seen him move between the written and performed word, finding different ways to tell stories and engage audiences.

His body of work includes his debut poetry chapbook His Thoughts, the poetry project Maru, and the theatre production Dikgosi Tsa ’Noka Tshetlha. In 2019, he ventured into children’s literature with Moshe Le Sefosane, a Setswana children’s picture storybook published by Puku.

His interest in children’s storytelling continued with Credo Mutwa, The Sangoma of Kuruman, published in partnership with Cadbury Dairy Milk SA and Nal’ibali and made available in all 11 official South African languages.
Sedibe’s creative practice also extends into cultural production. In 2023, he hosted the inaugural Northern Cape Poetry Festival, bringing together more than 30 poets from across South Africa. His commitment to cultural heritage was further recognised when he was named a finalist in the 2023 National Heritage Council Golden Shield Awards - Young Heritage Activist category.

In 2024, he released Moya Wa Mutwa, a poetry project drawing on South Africa’s cultural heritage and exploring identity, spirituality and the human experience through lyrical verses in English and native languages.
Through Book Dash, we are excited to shine a light on Mogale’s creative journey and introduce our audiences to the person behind the work.

Welcoming Our New Founder Trustee, Juvena Naidoo

We are delighted to welcome Juvena Naidoo, Wessels Mine Surface Production Manager at South32, as the new Founder Trustee of the Kgolo Community Development Trust.

Juvena brings a wealth of professional experience, strategic insight and leadership expertise, which will further strengthen the Trust's ability to drive meaningful and sustainable impact in the communities we serve. Her experience, combined with a strong commitment to community development, will be invaluable as KCDT continues to invest in education and initiatives that create long-term opportunities for community members.

Importantly, Juvena also brings first-hand knowledge of the Hotazel community, where she lives and thrives. Her deep understanding of the local context, opportunities and challenges will help ensure that the Trust remains responsive to the needs and aspirations of the communities it serves.

Calling all writers, illustrators and designers!

Use the creative skills you practice every day to give a child the gift of a lifetime. Apply to take part at our 25th Book Dash event being hosted in Johannesburg on Saturday 19 September 2026.

We want your unique superpower to help us celebrate and create beautiful, brand-new African children's storybooks.

On a single Book Dash day, teams of volunteer creatives work together to make beautiful African children’s books that anyone can freely access, print and distribute. All our books are made in 12-hour sprints by creative professionals who volunteer their time and talent because they believe in our vision. Each team consists of a writer, an illustrator, a designer and an editor. Expert Book Dash facilitators will be around to keep you on track, and help you finish your book.

Book Dash books are freely available for anyone to access worldwide and we have printed and distributed more than 6 million books, enabling families to read with their young children, and set them on the path to success.

In alignment with our event sponsor, the Kgolo Community Development Trust, we are eager to champion local talent, and creatives from the John Taolo Gaetsewe District and the broader Northern Cape are highly encouraged to apply. A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Former Founder Trustee, Tebogo Masuku

We bid farewell to Tebogo Masuku as he steps down from his role as a Founder Trustee of the Kgolo Community Development Trust.

As a Founder Trustee, Tebogo has played an instrumental role in shaping the Trust's journey and strengthening its commitment to creating sustainable impact across the communities we serve. His thoughtful leadership, strategic insight and unwavering dedication have enriched discussions at Board level and provided invaluable guidance to the Social Investment and Partnerships Committee (SIPP) and Audit, Risk and Governance (ARG) Committee.

Beyond his governance contributions, Tebogo has been a trusted voice, a champion of meaningful social investment and a steadfast advocate for ensuring that the Trust remains focused on delivering lasting impact for beneficiaries across the JTG District in Northern Cape.

On behalf of the Board and management team, we extend our sincere gratitude for his service, wisdom and commitment during his time with the Trust.

The Kgolo Community Development Trust (KCDT) seeks to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Specialist to develop an integrated Theory of Change and MEL Framework that will guide programme planning, implementation, reporting, learning and strategic decision-making across the Trust.

Since its establishment, the Trust has invested significantly in education, while progressively expanding its investment portfolio to include health, infrastructure and broader community development initiatives. As the Trust enters its new strategic cycle, greater emphasis is being placed on evidence-based decision making, measurable impact, institutional learning and sustainable development outcomes. Central to this strategic shift is the establishment of a robust Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) system that enables the Trust to understand not only what it funds, but how its investments contribute to meaningful and lasting change within beneficiary communities.

Bus shade handover

We are pleased to confirm the successful completion and handover of the bus shade structure to the Department of Health: JTG District. This infrastructure forms part of broader efforts to support the Integrated School Health Programme, enabling the bus to operate efficiently while delivering health related services to learners across the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality.

The parking port was constructed to provide a secure and designated parking facility for the bus, and we anticipate that the bus will be able to serve more learners during the academic year, contributing to improved access to education and related services.

We would like to extend our appreciation to McDonald Plantation and Civil Works for the construction of the bus shade, as well as the Kagiso Health Centre, where the bus is stationed. We remain committed to supporting infrastructure interventions that respond to practical community needs and deliver measurable impact.
