Buffelshoek Trust

Buffelshoek Trust We enable development through education in the villages of Dixie and Utah and selected communities in the Manyeleti, Hluvukani and Acornhoek regions.

The Buffelshoek Trust was initiated in 2001 with the mission of providing “upliftment through education” to the people of Dixie and Utah villages in the Manyeleti Region of Bushbuckridge. The first donation of about R10 000 has since grown to an annual portfolio of up to R2 million of direct spend and up to R10 million of partner spend across 12 educational institutions in the Acornhoek, Manyeleti

and Hluvukani Regions of Bushbuckridge. Our holistic approach to community development delivers social infrastructure; food and water security; youth development; primary health care; enterprise development and leadership development to our partner communities. Our partnership-based approach ensures the direct involvement of corporates, communities and government entities to ensure sustainable interventions that directly support community needs and existing government interventions. This allows us to keep operating costs to below 10% of annual turnover, directing 90% of all funds towards the implementation of community projects. Responding to the constantly changing context in which we work, the Trust mobilizes resources and expertise from urban centers across South Africa to support initiatives in the villages in which we work.

Hi, my name is Negro Khoza. My father was a waiter in the army, serving soldiers, and he got to know many African Americans during this time. Incredibly proud of his heritage, he named me Negro, a name I feel honoured to have. I am from Somerset, Belfast, which is a community not far from Sabi Sabi. I work as a Bar Attendant at Bush Lodge and have been with the company since September 2017 and love my job as a Barman! The staff are so lovely and treat me well. My friends here have become family. The best thing about my job is meeting people from all over the world when I get to entertain and interact with them.
