Does the way I spend my time reflect what I truly value?
The words attributed to ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه remind us:
“I hate to see a man walking idly, occupying himself neither with the matters of his Dunyā nor with the matters of his Ākhirah.”
But purposeful living is not about being busy every minute.
It is about giving every responsibility its rightful place.
1️⃣ GIVE ALLAH HIS RIGHT
Don't postpone your Ākhirah until retirement or “when life becomes easier.”
Make Ṣalāh, Qur'an, Dhikr and good deeds part of your life now.
2️⃣ GIVE YOUR FAMILY & BODY THEIR RIGHT
Your family needs more than your income—they need your presence.
Your body is an Amānah—look after it so that you can continue to worship Allah and serve others.
As Salmān رضي الله عنه reminded Abū al-Dardāʾ رضي الله عنه:
“Your Lord has a right over you, your body has a right over you, and your family has a right over you.”
3️⃣ GIVE OTHERS SOMETHING FROM YOUR LIFE
A meaningful life is not measured only by what you accumulate, but by what you give.
Teach someone.
Help someone.
Visit someone.
Support someone.
Leave behind something beneficial.
⏳ DON'T JUST FILL YOUR DAYS. FILL YOUR LIFE WITH PURPOSE.
And tonight, ask yourself:
Does the way I spend my time reflect what I truly value?
If these words made you think of someone who could benefit from this reminder, send it to them.
Perhaps Allah will make these few words a means of benefit for both of you. 🤲
