OPERATIONAL SUCCESS | JOHANNESBURG

CAP, working alongside SAPS and Tracker Connect, contributed to the recovery of three wanted motor vehicles and the arrest of one suspect during an intelligence-led vehicle crime operation in Johannesburg.

The operation involved SAPS Crime Intelligence, the Gauteng Tactical Response Team (TRT), Highway Patrol, CAP and Tracker Connect.

Two vehicles — a Toyota Etios Cross and an Audi A1 — were recovered in Johannesburg Central. A Volkswagen Tiguan was subsequently recovered in Johannesburg South.

The vehicles were linked to theft and robbery cases dating from 2021 and 2025. False registration plates and mobile phones were also seized during the operation.

One suspect was arrested and detained at a police station. The recovered vehicles were impounded for further investigation.

CAP’s role extends beyond visible security. Through intelligence-led cooperation with SAPS and other partners, we work to identify and disrupt the criminal networks, repeat offenders and supporting infrastructure that enable crime across Johannesburg.

Dismantling this infrastructure benefits CAP communities, but its impact reaches further. Removing offenders, recovering stolen property and disrupting organised criminal activity supports safer public spaces across Johannesburg, strengthens confidence for residents and businesses, and contributes to the conditions required for investment, economic activity and sustainable growth across our country.

Further investigations are underway to identify additional wanted vehicles and establish the suspect’s links to the related crimes.

CAP Newsflash | Three Suspects Apprehended Following Solar Light Theft in Victory Park
22 September 2026

Dear Residents,

On 21 September 2026 at approximately 23:30 , three suspects entered the Victory Park area and proceeded to steal solar lights. A chase ensued from the vicinity of Road Number 3 and Rustenburg Road towards Tana Road, where the three suspects were apprehended within five minutes.

The suspects were apprehended and handed over to Linden SAPS for further processing. SAPS will conduct the necessary checks and determine whether the suspects may be linked to any other cases in the area.

The response involved CAP Specialised Unit, CAP K9 Unit, CAP Tactical, CAP Command & Logistics and Linden SAPS.

Why this matters
The theft of community infrastructure affects the shared spaces that residents rely on. Prompt reporting of incidents and suspicious activity helps ensure that concerns are brought to the attention of the appropriate teams and that a response can be coordinated.

CAP Newsflash | Suspect Sentenced To 5 Years Imprisonment

Dear Residents,

The conclusion of a criminal case is an important part of the justice process. This matter demonstrates why reporting criminal activity, opening cases with SAPS and allowing the legal process to run its course remain important beyond the initial response.

On 13 August 2025 , CAP teams, working alongside SAPS, Gauteng TRT, SAPS Johannesburg K9 and the DPC Tracking Team, received information about a suspect vehicle operating in the Sandton area.

Information indicated that the occupants were preparing to follow a potential victim from a nearby shopping centre and commit an armed robbery. The vehicle was intercepted before the planned robbery could take place and the suspects were apprehended.

During the apprehension, one of the suspects was found to be wanted in connection with a 2023 Honeydew case involving charges including housebreaking and possession of a dangerous weapon. He was detained and the matter proceeded through the court process.

The CAP Legal Team maintained a watching brief on the case and followed the matter through to its conclusion.

On 16 September 2026, the accused was found guilty of housebreaking and theft and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.

An arrest is not the end of a criminal matter. Opening a case, providing information and supporting the investigation allows the justice process to continue through to the courts. This case also highlights the importance of information-sharing between communities, CAP and SAPS when criminal activity is identified.

CAP Newsflash | Two House Robbery Cases Finalised

Dear Members,

Two house robbery cases involving suspects arrested following incidents in our communities have recently been finalised, with both accused receiving direct terms of imprisonment.

In the first matter, a known repeat house robbery suspect was arrested following a house robbery in Atholl in December 2022. The accused was granted bail but subsequently failed to attend court for sentencing, resulting in a warrant being issued for his arrest in January 2025. CAP continued working with SAPS to assist in locating the accused, who was rearrested in August 2025.

The accused remained in custody during the subsequent court proceedings and was found guilty and sentenced to eight years’ direct imprisonment on 24 August 2026.

In the second matter, a suspect was arrested in February 2022 in connection with a house robbery that occurred in Brooklyn in July 2021. On 25 August 2026, the accused was found guilty of housebreaking and robbery and sentenced to six years’ direct imprisonment.

These outcomes highlight the importance of reporting crime, opening a case with SAPS, and allowing the criminal justice process to run its course. A case does not end at the point of arrest. Investigations, court proceedings and sentencing are important parts of the process.

CAP remains involved beyond an arrest where required, working with SAPS through information-sharing and ongoing engagement relating to criminal matters.

Residents are encouraged to report incidents promptly, open criminal cases with SAPS, and continue reporting suspicious activity to the CAP Control Room on 0861 227 227.

CAP Newsflash | Suspects Apprehended Within 5 Minutes Following Attempted Robbery
31 August 2026

On 31 August 2026 , the CAP Control Room received a report of an attempted common robbery at a filling station along Oxford Road.

The CAP Control Room immediately began tracking the suspect vehicle, and CAP's Special Operations Team was deployed. The vehicle was located in the Houghton and Melrose areas and intercepted shortly thereafter. Three suspects were apprehended after the vehicle lost control.

The scene was secured and handed over to SAPS for further investigation. It was subsequently established that the vehicle had been linked to a common robbery reported in the Cleveland SAPS precinct.

This incident is a reminder that criminals are not welcome in CAP communities and that prompt reporting and coordinated responses play an important role in keeping our communities safe.
