CAP Newsflash: Joint School Safety Operation
21 August 2026

On Friday, 21 August 2026, a joint law enforcement operation focused on school safety, drugs and violence took place across Westbury, Newclare and Noordgesig, with the participation of the CAP-K9 Unit, SAPS, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, CPF patrollers and other law enforcement K9 resources.

The operation included members from JHB SAPS, Parkview SAPS, Norwood SAPS, Hillbrow SAPS, Moffatview SAPS, Sophiatown SAPS, Brixton SAPS, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, CPF Patrollers and Brinant K9.

During the operation, authorities confiscated ma*****na, codeine, vapes, knives and other dangerous weapons . A suspected student drug dealer was also apprehended.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to reduce the presence of drugs and dangerous weapons in and around schools and to support safer environments for learners and teachers.

The Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, met with the CAP K9 Unit during the operation and expressed appreciation for the role played by participating teams in supporting school safety.

CAP will continue to work alongside law enforcement and community partners in support of safer schools and communities.

CAP Newsflash: Three Suspects Apprehended Following Coordinated Operation
Date: 19 August 2026

On Wednesday, 19 August 2026 , acting on intelligence indicating an impending attack in the vicinity of Melrose Estate, CAP’s Specialised Teams deployed alongside SAPS, with support from Tracker Connect and Joburg K9, to intercept the suspects before the planned attack could take place.

The operation resulted in three suspects being apprehended while travelling in a Suzuki Swift displaying cloned registration plates. Two fi****ms and ammunition were recovered during the operation.

The suspects are believed to be linked to a series of follow home robberies targeting high end watches and jewellery across Gauteng. The suspects and recovered items will form part of the ongoing SAPS investigation.

The successful interception demonstrates the importance of intelligence led operations and coordinated action between CAP’s Specialised Teams, SAPS and security partners in disrupting suspected criminal activity before it occurs.

Safety. Skills. Connection.

On 7 August 2026, the CAP K9 Unit had the pleasure of visiting Glenoaks Remedial and Special Needs School for a day of safety education, K9 demonstrations and interaction with the students.

As a non-profit safety and security organisation, CAP is committed to protecting communities while building meaningful relationships with the people we serve. From learning about personal safety to seeing our detection dogs demonstrate their specialised skills, the visit gave students an opportunity to experience another side of community protection.

A special highlight was spending time with Storm, our therapy K9, who brought plenty of energy, connection and smiles to the day.

Thank you to the students and staff at Glenoaks for welcoming our team and making the visit so memorable.

Community protection is about more than responding to incidents. It’s about building relationships, creating awareness and connecting with the communities we serve.

CAP Newsflash: Three Suspects Arrested After Suspect Vehicle Stopped in Houghton

At approximately 08:20 on Wednesday, 5 August 2026 , while the CAP K9 Unit was conducting routine patrols in Houghton, JMPD stopped a suspect vehicle and requested backup. The CAP K9 Unit responded and assisted officers at the scene.

Three suspects were arrested and the vehicle was seized after it was found to be displaying false registration plates. Six cellular phones were also recovered from the suspects' possession. The suspects are believed to have been involved in cellphone snatching incidents and the recovered phones will form part of the ongoing police investigation.

This incident highlights the ongoing cooperation between CAP and law enforcement agencies in responding to suspected criminal activity.
