What Can African Associations Learn From One Another? 🌍

Across the continent, African associations are doing remarkable work — advocating for their industries, building professional standards, convening thought leaders, and shaping policy in ways that are transforming sectors from agriculture to healthcare to finance. Yet too often, these efforts happen in silos. A trade association in Nairobi successfully restructures its governance model, a professional body in Accra cracks the code on member retention, and a federation in Lagos builds a self-sustaining events calendar — but these wins rarely travel across borders. The knowledge exists. The lessons are real. What is missing is the deliberate practice of sharing them.

That is exactly the gap AfSAE exists to close. When African associations come together — not just to network, but to exchange strategies, compare challenges, and co-create solutions — the entire ecosystem grows stronger. Peer learning between associations is one of the most underutilised tools in association management on this continent. Whether it is governance frameworks, revenue diversification, membership engagement, or secretariat capacity, there is an African association that has already solved the problem you are wrestling with today.
