As Youth Day approaches, Tomorrow Trust encourages everyone to reflect on the significance of this important day in South Africa's history. Youth Day commemorates the courage, resilience, and determination of the young people who stood up for their rights and helped shape our nation's future.

As Nelson Mandela once said:

"The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow."

This Youth Day, let us honour the sacrifices made by the youth of 1976 and remember the powerful message they left behind—that education, equality, and opportunity are worth striving for. May we continue to empower young people to dream boldly, pursue their goals, and become the changemakers our communities need.

On 16 May, our 2026 Cell C SEEYOUTH Cohort came together as part of Cell C’s SEE YOUTH initiative for a day filled with energy, connection, creativity, and teamwork.

From team tournaments to content creation sessions, every activity was designed to encourage collaboration, confidence, and meaningful engagement, and our students embraced every moment.

Beyond the fun, the day created an opportunity for students to connect, build relationships, and grow together in a positive and inspiring environment.

Tomorrow Trust has psychologists that support all our tertiary students. This week we have intel from one of our lead psychologists, Natasha Hartley.

Student burnout can happen without students even realising it because stress, exhaustion, and lack of rest often feel normal during exam season.

But studying longer does not always mean studying better. Quality study sessions are more effective than exhausting yourself for hours. Remember to take care of your mental health, get enough sleep, and make time for small things that help you relax, whether it’s taking a walk, getting ice cream with a friend, or simply taking a short break.

A healthy mind studies better. 💙

Tomorrow Trust learners built their SPIKE™ Prime robots from scratch using a simple LEGO® SPIKE Prime blueprint. The session focused on constructing sturdy, functional robots with correctly placed motors and sensors, ensuring all components were movable and properly aligned. Learners engaged in hands-on problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking as they brought their designs to life. Facilitators and volunteers provided guidance with technical challenges and supported accurate motor and sensor placement. By the end of the session, each team had a fully assembled robot, ready for programming, testing, and further exploration in robotics and coding.

We are always looking forward to our learners upskilling their coding skills, as each opportunity allows them to grow in confidence and capability within the world of technology. Through these practical experiences, they continue to strengthen their problem-solving, logical thinking, and creativity, while gaining valuable exposure to robotics and programming that prepares them for future learning and career pathways in the digital space.

The pressure to always perform academically is real and often unspoken. Many students feel they must constantly achieve high marks, avoid mistakes, and meet expectations, often leading to stress, anxiety, and burnout, even when they are doing well.

This is a reminder that your worth is not defined by performance alone, and it is okay to not always be at your best.

As part of Tomorrow Trust’s Mental Health Awareness week, we continue to highlight the importance of student wellbeing and creating space for honesty, balance, and support.
