Today is World Mental Health Day, and it’s a good moment to remember that every young person needs a safe space to explore, grow and feel confident. At Tomorrow Trust, psychosocial support is built into everything we do, from Grade R right through to tertiary education and early career.

We don’t treat emotional wellbeing as an add-on. We combine it with academic support, digital skills and career development, because a learner who feels supported is a learner who can reach further.

To the people who help make that possible, and to the young people who keep showing up, keep trying and keep believing in what comes next, thank you.

Chemistry comes alive when learners do the experiments themselves.

Our Grade 12 learners attended a science workshop at SciBono as part of our whole school support programme. The workshop focused on titration, a key Grade 12 chemistry topic and a common source of exam stress.

Learners completed the hands-on experiments. Doing this in a fully equiped science lab helps them understand the methods and steps, not just memorise it. It also builds the confidence they need for their upcoming final exams.

Thank you to SciBono for hosting our learners and for making the day so practical and engaging.

On 23 September, VML volunteers joined us at Thabisang Primary School, one of our partner schools in Soweto, as part of VML Foundation Day.

VML Foundation Day is an annual global day of service where VML employees step away from their usual work to give their time, skills and energy to communities. Across the world, VML teams volunteer with organisations working across areas such as education, youth development, health and community development.

At Thabisang Primary School, VML volunteers brought the Unlocking Ubuntu Science activities to life through hands-on activities designed to encourage curiosity, teamwork, problem-solving and creativity.

Together, they took on:

Balloon-powered vehicle engineering
An egg protection challenge
Gamified STEM problem solving
Artwork and painting

The value of volunteering goes beyond the hours spent at a school. When professionals give their time, they bring new experiences, perspectives and skills into spaces where young people are learning and growing.

Our learners worked alongside VML volunteers, tackled each challenge and shared their ideas with confidence. For many young people, experiences like these help make learning more practical and show them different ways of thinking about what they can achieve.

Thank you to VML for choosing to spend Foundation Day with our learners and for putting the spirit of service into action.

Meet Bathabile. This is her story.

“After graduating with a BA and NQF6 in Financial Markets and Instruments, I was able to secure a one-year contract as an Investment Analyst Intern at a fund management company. When the contract ended, finding permanent employment proved to be challenging and that encouraged me to make the brave decision to return to university at 27.

In 2025, I enrolled at university to pursue a BCom in Information Systems, majoring in Informatics and Data Science. Despite the financial challenges and uncertainties that came with starting over, through it all I remained determined to invest in my future.

In 2026, my journey took a transformative turn when I was accepted into the Tomorrow Trust bursary programme . Through the programme, I received full funding, support to help manage academic pressure and stress, and access to educational masterclasses that address the realities students like myself face on a daily basis.

I am now looking ahead with renewed confidence and dreams of pursuing a BCom Honours in Statistics and Data Science.

I am incredibly grateful and I am choosing to re-write my story, my way.”

Thank You, Teachers!

Today, many of us will stop to say thank you to a teacher.

We want to say it too. To every teacher in South Africa: thank you!

Thank you for stepping into the classroom every day. You arrive with a lesson to teach. Your learners arrive with a whole life ahead of them.

Some have walked a long way to get there. Some arrive hungry. Some are worried about what is happening at home. Some are falling behind and have lost confidence. Some could be the first in their family to finish Grade 12. Some have real potential but have never heard anyone say so.

So you notice. You ask. You encourage and you challenge.

You won't find that in a curriculum document. Yet you do it anyway, and for many young people it is the most important part of your work.

At Tomorrow Trust, we support orphaned and vulnerable young people through education, because we believe potential deserves opportunity. We also know that no learner is shaped by one person. Every young person is held up by a network of support. It includes family, school and community.

But you(teachers) sit at the centre of it!

Thank you for that.

Because of you, a learner might discover a subject they go on to study at university. Because of you, someone's potential is seen before they see it themselves. Because of you, a young person applies for a bursary, aims higher, or decides not to give up.

These moments rarely make headlines. But sometimes everything changes because one teacher saw something in a young person and said, "Keep going."

The young people you teach today will become scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, artists and leaders. Some will one day stand at the front of a classroom themselves. You are helping shape who they become.

Teachers are not lucky to have a job. South Africa is lucky to have you.

To every teacher who shows up, listens, challenges and believes: thank you. Your work matters. Your voice matters. The future needs you.

Meet Fhulufhedzani. For the past three years, Fhulufhedzani , a final year Bachelor of Pharmacy student has been on a journey of transformation and is ready to serve his community.

One lesson that stayed with Fhulufhedzani was: “The comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows in it.” Inspired by this, he challenged himself to step outside his comfort zone, embrace leadership opportunities and become more involved in his community.

Through the support and consistent encouragement, Tomorrow Trust became more than just a support programme , it was the reassurance he needed throughout his university journey. His journey was not without challenges. The pressure of maintaining high grades often left him feeling disappointed when he did not meet the goals he had set for himself. Through monthly check-ins, he learned to set realistic goals, be kinder to himself and keep moving forward, even when things felt difficult.

Now, as graduation approaches, Fhulufhedzani sees it as more than an academic achievement. It represents gratitude for everyone who supported him, the reward for years of hard work, and the beginning of a new chapter.

As he looks forward to completing her internship and providing quality healthcare to patients in his community, he carries leadership skills he gained through Tomorrow Trust and is ready to make a meaningful difference in the field of pharmacy.

Meet Hunadi. The journey through university has not been the easiest for Hunadi. Like many students, she also experienced academic and personal challenges which lead to her having moments of self-doubt and uncertainty. Through the experience she learnt the importance of resilience and asking for support where necessary.

Tomorrow Trust became an important part of her journey. Through the masterclasses and opportunities for personal growth, she not only gained academic support, but this was also a time for her to understand herself as an individual and who she was becoming.

Obtaining her degree in Construction Studies is something she is highly proud of as this was once a dream but now is her reality. As she continues to celebrate this milestone she is grateful for Tomorrow trust and assures that this only the beginning of a new chapter. Success does not always happen in a straight line and for Hunadi the setbacks and difficult seasons she has endured are what have shaped her.

Her message to other students is simple, “Choose something you love, believe in yourself and keep pushing no matter how difficult the journey can be and remember growth takes time.”

"Leadership isn’t just about standing out; it’s about standing up for who you are and who you choose to become."

The journey to manhood is about more than just societal expectations; it takes emotional resilience, a grounded mindset, and clear purpose. Day 1 of our "Becoming Better Men" workshop created an empowering space for our male students to unpack identity, mental health, and what it truly means to lead with integrity and accountability.

From candid sessions on redefining masculinity and mental wellness with Ntsako and Ronald, Tomorrow Trust Social Workers, to honest conversations on healthy relationships and career direction, our students reflected on the men they are today and the legacy they want to build.

The energy in the room transformed silence into open dialogue as our young men unpacked real challenges, mapped out their aspirations, and leaned into vulnerability as a strength.

Thank you to Ntsako and Ronald for facilitating these transformative sessions for our students.

Innovation starts with recognising a challenge and having the courage to create a solution.

The Nedbank Green Economy Indaba brought together emerging small businesses, green entrepreneurs, community leaders, and social partners who are driving sustainable, community-focused solutions across South Africa.

Tomorrow Trust was proud to participate alongside 40 of our learners, giving them a platform to showcase their eco-innovations, engage with seasoned entrepreneurs, and see how sustainable thinking translates into real-world impact.
A key highlight for our learners was the opportunity to present their green business concepts directly to Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, Minister of Small Business Development.

Our learners presented projects aligned with core green economy sectors, including water conservation, circular economy initiatives, and renewable energy. One standout innovation was a solar-powered smart streetlight designed to store solar energy during the day, illuminate streets at night, and integrate community safety features to address local energy and security needs.

At Tomorrow Trust, we believe holistic education must equip young people with the knowledge, confidence, and practical exposure needed to shape their futures and contribute meaningfully to society.
