The release of the Civil Commission’s report, Silenced No More, which documents evidence and testimony relating to sexual and gender-based violence perpetrated during the October 7 attacks and in captivity thereafter, represents a huge step forward in holding to account the perpetrators of conflict related sexual violence in October 7th 2023
The findings outlined in this report are deeply disturbing. They point not only to acts of brutality against individuals, but to patterns of violence intended to terrorise, dehumanise, humiliate, and destroy the fabric of families and communities. Sexual violence used systematically in the context of terror and mass atrocities constitutes a grave violation of human rights and international law.
Koleinu believes that the international community must recognise these acts for what they are: not isolated incidents, but part of a broader campaign of gender-based violence, torture, and kinocide.
Kinocide is defined as the deliberate targeting and destruction of families as a weapon of war or terror. Kinocide recognises that violence aimed at families and communal bonds is not incidental, but intentional: an attack on the very structures that provide protection, identity, continuity, emotional safety, and resilience within society.
The attempted silencing, denial, minimisation, or politicisation of survivors’ experiences causes further harm. Survivors of sexual violence should never have to fight to have their pain acknowledged. We are deeply concerned by the ways in which ideological bias and public discourse can contribute to retraumatisation, disbelief, and the erasure of victims’ suffering. Koleinu stands firmly against all forms of sexual and gender-based violence, regardless of the identity of the victims or perpetrators. Accountability, recognition, and survivor-centred justice are essential to any meaningful human rights response.
