The sun decided to make an appearance, giving us the perfect opportunity to celebrate Deaf Women’s Day at the Durban Botanical Gardens. ☀️🌿

Together, we reflected on the history of Women’s Day, celebrated the achievements of Deaf women, discussed how mental health affects our community, and learned more about the services offered by DeafSA KwaZulu-Natal.

DeafSA KwaZulu-Natal proudly kicked off Women’s Month on 1 August, and what a wonderful way to begin! 💜 It was a meaningful day filled with learning, empowerment, connection, and celebration. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so special. 🌸🤝

What a fantastic weekend! 🎭

DeafSA Gauteng was honoured to host a beautiful theatre performance in partnership with an incredible performing arts group. This collaboration celebrates inclusion, creativity, and the talents of Deaf people in the arts.

We look forward to growing this partnership and creating more opportunities for Deaf people to participate in theatre while raising awareness of Deaf culture and South African Sign Language.

A heartfelt thank you to the DeafSA Gauteng staff for your support and participation. Together, we are building a more inclusive future.

Twenty-four learners from Ekurhuleni School for the Deaf have earned the opportunity to compete at the prestigious Dream Cup in Japan, but the team is struggling to raise the funds needed to make the trip a reality.

Yesterday, 19 July 2026, DeafSA Western Cape successfully hosted the celebration of the 3rd Anniversary of South African Sign Language (SASL) as South Africa's 12th Official Language in Worcester. 🤟🏽

Our sincere appreciation goes to our outstanding guest speakers who made the National South African Sign Language (SASL) Day 2026 celebration meaningful, educational, and inspiring.

👏 Stephen Lombard – Former PRO of the Deaf Community of Cape Town (DCCT) and Deaf icon in South Africa.

👏 Lizette Fitzpatrick – DeafSA Western Cape Provincial Council Member and Deaf Teacher at Delabat School for the Deaf.

👏 Jean-Claude Smit – Provincial Chairperson of DeafSA Western Cape and Member of the Western Cape Language Committee (Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport).

👏 Councillor Vernon Bedworth – Mayoral Committee Member, Breede Valley Municipality.
