15 May – International Day of Families

This year’s theme highlights inequalities affecting deaf children and their families. Too many still lack access to national sign language, impacting connection, development, and well-being.

We must act to:
β€’ Ensure early access to sign language
β€’ Support families with accessible information
β€’ Include deaf children in policies

Every family matters. Every child deserves equal opportunities.

Today, the Deaf community had the opportunity to engage with the Minister of Electricity and Energy to share the challenges faced by Deaf people within the electricity and energy sector, while also providing practical recommendations and solutions. We appreciate the opportunity to ensure that Deaf voices are heard and included in discussions that impact our communities.

We now look forward to meaningful action, inclusive policies, improved accessibility, Deaf employment opportunities, and tangible outcomes that will create real change for Deaf people across South Africa.
