Heartlines

Heartlines Award-winning multimedia NGO. Nation-changing media campaigns. Values-based films. Hopeville series. Nothing for Mahala. Values that connect.

Heartlines is in the business of changing lives through media and starting conversations that transform society. Our visionary founder is Dr Garth Japhet, an Ashoka and World Economic Forum fellow, and also the founder of Soul City. In 2006 we produced 8 values-based films which launched a national campaign, '8 Weeks. 8 Values. 1 National Conversation.'
These films went on to win numerous awards,

including the Durban Film Festival and the Banff World Television Awards. In 2009, we launched the campaign '6 Weeks of Values in Action'. Our flagship was the series and later on the film Hopeville, which won many awards including a Rose’ Dor, two SAFTA awards and an international Emmy nomination. In 2013 we bring you 'Nothing for Mahala': a film campaign about Values & Money.

Today, we’re focusing on an act of kindness that is heartfelt and can change either your or someone close to you’s life. Choose one (or more) of these acts to truly show compassion and empathy.
One way you can do this is to
1. Forgive someone (even silently)
2. Listen to someone's story without interrupting
3.Check on someone who seems quiet
4.Write a letter of encouragement to your future self

If you’d like tips on how to create a safe space for others to share their stories and process their feelings – and to do your part in changing the world through empathy, click on the link below: https://www.heartlines.org.za/wys/empathy

Today, we’re encouraging you to give back.

Kindness can be as simple as sharing something helpful with someone who needs it.
There might be a father, uncle or grandfather in your life who’s trying his best and looking for guidance on how to parent better. One small act of kindness could be sharing a resource that supports and encourages him on that journey.
You could:
1. Volunteer your time
2. Share this resource
3. Start a meaningful conversation
Download our discussion starter here:

This discussion starter explores what it means to be a present and active father. We use stories from real people about their own experiences of fatherhood to get the conversation going.

You may have started the year with some new goals in mind, but have you thought about how to prioritise your values this year?
Resolutions often focus on what we want to achieve: lose weight, save money or even work harder. But goals can fade when motivation dips. Values, on the other hand, shape who we become and guide us even when things get tough.
When your resolutions are anchored in values like kindness, honesty, responsibility or empathy, it can help you align with who you truly want to be and not just the results you want to see.

We encourage you to take time to reflect on the values that will shape how you live, how you work and how you treat the people around you.
READ MORE HERE: https://www.heartlines.org.za/articles/a-different-kind-of-new-years-resolution

As this year starts, the most meaningful resolution you can make may not be about what you want to achieve, but about how you choose to live.
