πŸ™ŒBig news, and it could not have come at a better timeπŸ™Œ

As South Africa commemorates Women's Month, we are proud to welcome the Nedbank Foundation as a partner to our GIRLS CAN programme!

Through play, sport, and mentorship, GIRLS CAN is helping girls in our Inner City and Soweto communities build confidence, discover their strength, and support one another. We have watched shy girls find their voice on the court. We have watched friendships form through our sessions that carry girls through tough days. This is what happens when girls are given the space to play, learn, and grow together.

This partnership means we get to reach even more girls with the power of sport this Women's Month.

To the Nedbank Foundation, thank you for investing in our girls and standing with us on this journey. Together, we are changing the game for the next generation.

Stay tuned, there is so much more to come!

πŸŸπŸ’› A little joy for our girls πŸŸπŸ’›

On the 9th of August we took 20 of our Social Girls out to McDonald's in Soweto β€” no big agenda, just a treat because they deserve it.

Watching them squeeze into booths, argue over who is getting the McFlurry, and just laugh without a care in the world... honestly, it filled our hearts. Some of these girls carry so much. So for a few hours, we just wanted them to be kids β€” to feel spoiled, to feel celebrated, to feel like someone sees them and thinks they're worth showing up for.

That is what Egoli Youth Empowerment is about. Not every act of love needs to be grand. Sometimes it's just fries, milkshakes, and making sure a girl knows she matters.

Thank you to everyone who makes days like this possible. We see the impact, even in the small moments. 🀍

So proud of one of our Egolisquash Youth Empowerment youth leader Lerato Maake! Lerato recently shared her story at the National Youth Development Agency Implementing Partner Knowledge Exchange, alongside Sport for Social Change Network Africa - SSCNA, as a powerful example of what youth service can unlock: real pathways to growth, employment, and community impact.

We are so proud of you, Lerato.

Thank you, Lerato, for showing what youth service can build. πŸ’š

What a week we have had in Soweto! 🎾

Our holiday squash clinic wrapped up and honestly, it was such a joy to watch. Kids showed up ready to play, laugh, and just be kids, and by the end of the week you could see the friendships that had formed on court.

None of this would have happened without the support of Squash South Africa and Growthpoint, who made the clinic possible. Thank you for believing in these players and in what squash can do for our communities.

We had a great turnout too. Twenty five players on the 15th, twenty six on the 16th, thirty one on the 17th, and twenty five more on our final day, the 21st.

And that last day had a special surprise. Palmer, visiting all the way from the United States, joined right into the session with our players. It was such a fun moment seeing him on court, swapping stories and sharing a love for the game that clearly needs no translation.

At the end of the day, this clinic was never just about squash. It was about giving kids a space to relax, have fun, and make friends, and that is exactly what we got.

Here is to the next one πŸ†

This Mandela Day, our Egoli Youth Empowerment family showed up in a big way!

🧹 Gazankulu Clean-Up
19 of our kids rolled up their sleeves and gave 67 minutes of their Saturday to clean the squash courts and the Gazankulu grounds β€” proving that small hands can make a big difference. πŸ’ͺ

🎾 Joburg Tennis Grassroots Foundation – Mandela Day Tennis Festival at Ellis Park Stadium
A huge thank you to Joburg Tennis Grassroots Foundation for inviting 27 of our inner-city players to their Mandela Day tennis clinic! Our kids had a blast trying out a brand-new sport and soaking up the spirit of the day.

Mandela Day reminds us that everyone has the power to change the world β€” even if it's just for 67 minutes. Thank you to every child, volunteer, and partner who made today special. πŸ™Œ

❀️ Seven Hours Left to Invest in Soweto's Youth β€” Your $100 Goes Twice as Far

Today marks the final hours of GlobalGiving's July Bonus Day, a twenty-four hour matching campaign that began yesterday and closes tonight. We have seven hours left, and we need your help to make the most of what remains.

πŸ‘‰ Invest now: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/sowetos-first-community-squash-padel-and-football/

For those who are able to invest one hundred dollars or more today, GlobalGiving will match your contribution from a one hundred and fifty thousand dollar bonus fund, meaning your generosity will go twice as far. Every qualifying investment also brings us closer to nine thousand dollars in additional bonus prizes, which would make an enormous difference to our work.

The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward revamping Soweto's squash courts and building toward the community's first multi-purpose sports, squash, and padel facility. This is about far more than a game. It is about giving Soweto's young people a safe, well-maintained place to train, to learn, and to grow, supported by coaches who show up for them consistently and academic programs that help keep them on track for their future.

As a registered organization, Egolisquash Youth Empowerment issues Section 18A certificates, so your investment is tax-deductible.

We have come a long way together, and we are asking for one final push before tonight's deadline. If you are in a position to invest, please consider one hundred dollars or more before the campaign closes. Our young people are counting on it.

The eighteenth of July is almost here, and we will be spending it doing something beautiful for our community.

Nelson Mandela once said that we all have the power to change the world for the better, one small act at a time. This year, we are not just talking about that idea. We are living it, together, as a community.

Together we can make every day a Mandela Day

πŸ“ Our event will be held in Gazankulu
πŸ•™ It will begin at ten o'clock in the morning

On the day, we will be:
🧹 Cleaning up and caring for our space
🌻 Planting flowers to leave something growing behind us
🎯 Enjoying fun games and activities
🀝 Connecting with our neighbours
🌈 Getting creative and building each other up
πŸ“Έ Capturing moments we will remember

This is our way of honouring Madiba's legacy through action. We are proud to be part of a community that shows up for one another. πŸ’ͺ

More updates to follow. 🧑

πŸ† What a week it's been! πŸ†

From 6–10 July, we had the privilege of hosting a holiday Clinic at Parkview Squash, and honestly, watching these kids grow over just five days was something special.

They showed up every day ready to learn, laughed through the tough drills, picked each other up when things got hard, and left this week just a little more confident than when they started. That's what this is all about.

As an extra treat, our players also went home with some awesome goodies from Laureus South Africa β€” a little reminder of the week and the support behind them. Thank you for the generosity! 🎁

Huge thanks to our coaches β€” you brought the energy, the patience, and the heart that made every single session count. These kids feel it, and so do we.

And to Standard Bank - South Africa, Parkview Squash Centre and everyone who helped make this clinic happen: thank you for believing in what we're building here. Every clinic like this is another step toward a brighter future for these young athletes.

One session, one rally, one champion at a time. πŸ’™πŸ’ͺ

What a special moment at our Holiday Clinic! πŸ’™

Yesterday, right in the middle of our clinic, our high performance players were awarded the Parkview Squash Centre Business League Award! There's something extra special about celebrating our players' hard work while they are right there on the court, surrounded by their teammates and coaches.

To Parkview β€” thank you for seeing our players and investing in their journey. It means so much to us and to every young athlete working hard to grow their game.

Our Holiday Clinic continues to run from the 6th to the 11th of July, with 24 of our players spending their school break learning, laughing, and pushing themselves further every day. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do. 🎾

Thank you to every parent, coach, and supporter who makes it all possible. This is what community looks like.

We are so proud of our EYE Assistant Coaches! πŸ’™
Yesterday, our 40 Assistant coaches β€” employed through the Sport for Social Change Network Africa - SSCNA and Social Employment Fund β€” brought the Donald Mackay community together through the power of sport: street racket, boxing, netball, and tug of war, all filled with energy, laughter, and connection. πŸ™Œ

It was an honour to have the Presidency, IDC, and Johannesburg Innercity Partnership join us and witness what our coaches do best β€” creating spaces where people feel welcome and alive with excitement. Thank you to our partners Dlala Nje, MES Impilo, Hillbrow Community Radio, and Urban Spaces for sharing in this journey. 🎢

To our coaches β€” thank you for the heart and dedication you bring every day. You are what makes Egoli Youth Empowerment possible. πŸ‘πŸ’™
