Every long relationship has its moments of disagreement. Some survive them. Others slowly grow apart.

For many South Africans, the ANC and the SACP have always seemed closely connected. Their partnership was forged during the struggle against apartheid and helped shape the country's political landscape for decades.

In his latest opinion piece, Dr Yacoob Abba Omar explores how that relationship has changed over time. He argues that the tensions making headlines today did not appear overnight. Instead, they are the result of years of differing priorities, expectations and political realities.

Whether you follow politics closely or simply want to better understand the shifts taking place in South Africa, this article offers valuable context.
