Year end function for Ukukhanya program, the program was established in 2023 to adress the issue of school drop out caused by parents not being able to keep up with the school fees and learners being chased out of private schools, no capacity from government schools to enroll more children as they are over capacity with the ratio of 60-1 and negligence , we run a home schooling centre that accommodate 30 children from grade 1-9 they are being taught subjects aligning with caps, digital literacy, yoga, gardening and sewing, they get weekly psychological support, nutrition support and sometimes clothes from different donors.

Johannesburg’s future depends on the children who fill our classrooms today.
And this year, we worked harder than ever to ensure that every child has the chance to learn, grow and shine.

We engaged 104 ECDs, carried out 106 needs analysis surveys, and trained 70 principals at our mass registration workshop. We listened to real challenges like unsafe buildings and undocumented children, and we acted by bringing religious leaders, NGOs and the City of Joburg together to support struggling centres in high rise buildings.

We supported 51 schools, collected needs assessments from 23 high schools and 14 primary schools, and through the June 16 Career Expo, reached 350 learners with opportunities in agriculture, maritime, technology, arts and entrepreneurship.

On Mandela Day, partners joined us to revitalise classrooms, gardens and school facilities.
One school’s computer lab is now being completely upgraded with the support of Microsoft.
Maharishi High School now has 180 Grade 8 learners learning robotics and digital skills.

And 16 aftercare centres are being supported to give children safe spaces after school.

2025 brought insight, connection and collaboration.
2026 will bring even more impact.

Mental health is a major rising concern not only in South Africa but across the globe. Creating platforms where young men can feel safe to talk about their issues needs to be one of priorities we have. And that is exactly what we thrive to do amongst other things we are deeply involved in when working with our communities here at leratong hub.

Our men hub program is designed for uplifting young and old men and making sure they understand that they are not alone. Shout out to SoHk for their next gen men guide everything was a success
